Wifi sometimes dies, I can't get it back up (21.10)
in flag

I am having a problem similar to this question: Losing Wifi on 12.04, no way to get it back?

On a machine where the problem doesn't manifest with windows and even in other machines, my wifi just randmly dies multiple times a day. there is no warning, sometimes it works for hours, sometimes in minutes but eventually it is guaranteed to happen. Wether the machine is iddle or working doesn't matter.

Ubuntu 21.10 becomes unstable/unusable and requires hard-boot when trying to change time-zone in Thunderbird 91.3
in flag

I am running the latest Thunderbird 91.3 on my Ubuntu 21.10 installation. It works like a charm for all my gmail/live accounts and calendars. However in past three weeks, I had to change my time zones frequently - US Pacific, India, US Eastern Standard and Central European and each-time when I resumed my laptop, Ubuntu recognized the local timezone (upon local Wifi connection) and changed automatically. ...

I have Ubuntu 20.04 installed on 2 systems, one with an i5-11400, 16gb of memory and plenty of storage, the other with an AMD Ryzen and 16gb of memory. Neither will resume from suspend if suspended for more than about 5 minutes regardless of how many or how few programs are loaded. By way of test I shutdown all programs and suspended. When I went to resume I got the sign-on screen which showed my userna ...

Difference between the two Flatpak backends available in apt for Plasma Discover? Is there a problem from Installing both?
mz flag

So basically I wanted to add Flatpak support to Discover and I came up with these two different Apt commands

sudo apt install plasma-discover-flatpak-backend

sudo apt install plasma-discover-backend-flatpak

They appear to be two different packages with very similar name I decided to install both just to be sure, but I don't know if that's going to cause an issue down the line or something

usrmerge of {/bin, /sbin, /lib}: How is the system supposed to be?
cn flag

It seems that

  1. some systems have a symlinks like this

     /bin -> usr/bin
     /lib -> usr/lib
     /sbin -> usr/sbin

  2. Some systems have single file-symlinks of executables in these directories like this:

    /bin/some_exe -> usr/bin/some_exe

    (this is what usrmerge seems to accomplish as well)

  3. And some systems have some symlinks and some executables (including duplicates).

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
