Can't access any files on Android phone connected to USB port
cn flag

I'm trying to back up my user files from my Android phone (recommended before a possible phone repair) into free space on my Kubuntu 20.04.3 desktop system, but although the notifier tells me when I've connected the phone via USB cable (through a 4-port USB hub that works fine for other things including writing SD cards for my 3D printer, with a cable that the phone accepts for "charging rapidly" though ...

Ubuntu 18.04 crashes when laptop runs on battery
de flag

I'm having a problem with my HP laptop, and I'm not really sure if it is a OS problem, but rather a hardware one. First of all the laptop model is HP 15-db1100nm. Most of the time my laptop has been plugged in, I rarely use it only on battery power. But now I need to do some work only on battery power, and the OS keeps crashing when it is unplugged. But this isn't always the case, sometimes it works fin ...

Fail2Ban vulnerability after reboot
br flag

I am very happy with fail2ban for protecting my server except for one issue. After a reboot, each banned ip address is added to iptables one at a time. On one server, I have about 7500 permanently banned ip addresses and that takes a couple of minutes to load. There is a small window of time for those banned ip addresses to get in after each reboot.

How do other people handle this very small vuln ...

Pass through SATA drive to VirtualBox VM
ng flag

I have a SanDisk 1TB SSD SATA drive. There are firmware updates available via SanDisk SSD Dashboard. The dashboard is only available on Windows.

I have a Windows 10 VM in VirtualBox. I want to know if it's possible to pass thorugh the SATA drive so I can do the firmware updates?

I think it's not enough to connect /dev/sda to the VM because the firmware update commands won't reach the SSD.

Apache2 conflict on home server with Ubuntu 20.04

I followed steps to install Ubuntu server on a home machine. This included installing Apache2 and Mysql. I also installed Nextcloud via Snap.

Whenever I start/reboot my server machine I can not access my Nextcloud via a browser (using server fixed IP). What I get is an Apache2 splash screen. If I SSH into the server and run 'sudo systemctl stop apache2' and then refresh my browser I can then acce ...

But after installation, when I run "mysql -uroot -p -e "show status like 'wsrep_cluster_size'" " I always get:

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
