Can't boot on desktop after Kubuntu 21.10 install
nz flag

I'm attempting to dual boot Kubuntu 21.10 on my desktop on a separate drive from my windows 10 drive. I have followed several tutorials for creating a bootable flash drive and just going through the installer. I don't seem to have any problems until I remove the media and restart. Grub comes up right away and I can boot into windows no problem. But if I select ubuntu I don't even get the kubuntu startup ...

Restore Kubuntu on a hosed system
us flag

My Dell Inspiron 16 is totally hosed. This machine has peculiar bootup behavior in any case, since there's no way to simply boot from a CD or memory stick that doesn't depend on the installed operating system. In its current state the system gives me a Grub prompt no matter how I start it. I can then boot from USB or a CD (it says). I have both Windows and Ubuntu installed (but now inaccessible) as a re ...

Nautilus/Caja Script to "Extract Here" Selected RAR/Archive(s) via Engrampa, File-Roller or Command?
ar flag

I'm looking to create a file manager script to use in Caja (I used "Nautilus Script" in the title so people would understand what I was trying to accomplish) that will extract the selected archive (or multiple archives) to the current location. Preferably I'd like to specify Engrampa to do the extracting, but File-Roller, or even a command, would be fine (though I'd prefer to have the progress dialog po ...

Block domain and all of its paths, except for some
ua flag

Let's say I want to block access to ALL of reddit.com, except for www.reddit.com/r/memes (and its sub paths) and www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit (and its sub paths). This example could apply to any site and to any sub path.

I've tried adding 127.0.0.1 www.reddit.com to /etc/hosts, but then I couldn't allow specific sub paths.

Is there a way to allow only specific sub paths of a domain in my comp ...

Install Linux from Linux without a USB or a CD-DVD
sb flag

I switched from Windows to Linux (Ubuntu) a few months ago and decided that it'd be a good idea to delete my Windows partition, which I did using the Disks application on Ubuntu.

However during the transition I made the Linux partition only 80 GB big and now I am stuck with 399 GBs of space just laying around.

I don't have a USB or a CD/DVD and I was wondering if I can install Linux from Linux or if ...

How to read proprietary Windows LDM partition (or convert to NTFS) on Ubuntu?
us flag

I removed Windows 10 from my 240GB SSD to use Ubuntu 21.10 as default system.

But I can't read a partition in my 1TB HD which I created using Windows.

The partition I am referring is was on a 1TB HD which I used only to store files. The partition files simply disappeared and now it is named as "Windows" inside Ubuntu with parition type "LDM" (?).

What is the best way to get access to this partition?

Remmina VNC - Cursor Disappears when using "grab all keyboard events"
de flag

I am using Remmina (1.4.21 installed via SNAP) on Ubuntu (20.04.3 LTS) to remote into a mac computer, using VNC plugin for GNOME & KVM; everything works great when I am not using the "grab all keyboard events" option. However, when I use "grab all keyboard events" (which I would like to use), the mouse/cursor immediately disappears.

It is of note that I am also using Remmina RDP protocol to a ...

I've installed Docker to WSL Ubuntu 20.04 distr. To make it run I need:

sudo dockerd

It runs but it blocks my terminal tab. To work with containers I need to open the second tab. I've tried to use sudo dockerd & - it seems to run dockerd in the background, but when I change a directory, it stops.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
