How to move chromium config from one PC to next?
in flag

I have a new laptop. The old was running Ubuntu 20.04 and the new Ubuntu 21.10.

I did a fresh install of Ubuntu 21.10 (not an upgrade).

I want to transfer my Chromium config from the old to the new device.

With "config" I mean: Browser history, Passwords, autofill info like address, ...

What is the most simple way?

AFAIK I use Chromium via snap.

Disable or change global keyboard shortcut of specific application
br flag

I'm using Ubuntu 21.10. When the Evernote application is running, it intercepts some shortcuts (Ctrl+Alt+H, Ctrl+Alt+S) when the Evernote window is not active. Because of this, these shortcuts are not working in another application (Intellij IDEA), when its window is active.

  • I can't find how can change/disable these shortcuts in Evernote config.
  • I can't find these shortcuts in Settings → Keyboard

dig and nslookup commands are failing with a symbol lookup error
gh flag

I can't pin down exactly when this happened as I don't run these commands overly often. General DNS resolution must be working seeing as I am asking this question.

I've seen similar issues on this site but the answers didn't seem applicable. As far as I know, just dig and nslookup are affected. wget and curl are both able to resolve URLs.

I installed Server 20.04 on a brand new Intel NUC and as usual the installation was flawless. Installed Network Manager and connected to an AP, also no issue.

After about 12 hours the system went offline. I did 'lshw -C network' and found the Wifi adapter in "UNCLAIMED" status. I rebooted and it came back, connected, no issues - for 2 hours, then it went offline and was in unclaimed status aga ...

How to disable strange screen dimming for certain windows in Gnome
cn flag

I am using Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS. When I open

  • "Show Applications" form from the main menu
  • empty window in Firefox
  • mc or mutt in console

the screen becomes dimmed. Probably, it is some effect in Gnome.

I don't know for what purpose it was created, but it is disgusting and it irritates me a lot. How can I disable it?

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
