i'm running MPD (v0.21.20) on an Ubuntu box and using ncmpcpp client on the same machine. The machine has working sound as I am using it for other GUI applications.

Here is an extract of mpd.conf that seems problematic to me:

Getting Ubuntu on SSH Client on Macbook
us flag

I have managed to install Ubuntu on my VPS with Kamatera (hosting company) today. I am using it to run some marketing software remotely as it was taking up resources on my Mac.

The issue comes when I open a remote console it shuts down after 20 mins or so, which is useless. However, I can load the Ubuntu GUI and desktop fine, but only for 20 mins.

I spoke to tech support and they said it will always ...

How to restore login screen to Ubuntu's default?
us flag

I'm using Ubuntu 20.04. I had been using Big Sur GTK theme (https://github.com/vinceliuice/WhiteSur-gtk-theme) for a long time and recently I decided to go back to Ubuntu's default look, as my transition from Mac is over. I managed to remove the theme from most places, but I still haven't figured out how to return the login screen to normal.

Xubuntu Splash Showing When Prior Was Ubuntu Studio Theme
cn flag

This is not a duplicate post as there is nothing relating to Ubuntu Studio that I can find that actually works with this issue.

After a failed upgrade from Ubuntu Studio 21.04 to 21.10, I ended up having to use boot-repair to get it to boot once again. It is clearly still Ubuntu Studio but the bootup splash screen says Xubuntu and all the login and desktop screens are something else too with something li ...

How to figure out what command to assign LibreOffice shortcut key to
cn flag

In LibreOffice, I need to assign a shortcut to play media when it is selected, as it is too much work to mouse back and forth between many embedded media icons and the bottom of the screen to play them. I opened up Tool > Customize > Keyboard, but I can't figure out what command is used to toggle playing the audio media that is selected.

Is there a way that I can introspect LibreOffice so  ...

KB/M working on one laptop but not another
cn flag

I have two laptops, each a sub-variant of the main model. (AMD Acer A515-44 & Intel Acer A515-56)

For one laptop (Intel variant) the built-in KB/M works like normal, but for the other the keyboard and touchpad only works in grub and the beginning of the boot sequence.

Ctrl+F in the logs for "ELAN" shows they are both being identified, but only one model is working.

I recently got a new disk (Western Digital blue 250GB SATA) and I tried to install Ubuntu 20.04.3 on it.

The first time I tried installing from a USB key (created from Ubuntu's startup disk creator), I choose to install automatically on the SSD and the installation went well until it displayed the message: "Executing 'grub-install/dev/sda' failed. This is a fatal error". This was the only disk on ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
