How do I disable middle mouse click pasting clipboard?
af flag

I am running Kubuntu 20.04.

I just noticed that clicking the middle mouse button pastes my clipboard; I don't like that.

I cannot find a way to disable this behaviour. I would like to keep middle mouse button click working, but disable the paste action.

Disk writes suddenly very slow. SMART tests all report normal
cn flag

I noticed that my Ubuntu workstation has become extremely slow when writing to disk. I have two hard drives, one NVME and the other SSD (both set up with ZFS). They should be able to sustain multi-GB/s write speeds; however, benchmarking them shows that they are simply not performing as intended. Running fio --name=random-write --ioengine=posixaio --rw=randwrite --bs=4k --numjobs=1 --size=4g --iod ...

apt-get ... stuck on "0% [1 InRelease 768 B]"
us flag

I am encountering an interesting issue on a clean Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS with apt-get. If I run e.g. sudo apt-get update it gets stuck. I already force apt-get to use ipv4 and also clearing the cache does not help. Also using wget/curl on http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/focal/InRelease seems to work fine.

Here the logs:

Moving Files in Ubuntu 20.04 LTS
cn flag

I’ve used Ubuntu 16.04, 18.04 and recently installed 20.04. I cannot simply move files from one folder to another, but I could always do so in the earlier versions. Furthermore, I can do so on Macs and Windows PCs.

Is there a reason for this?

Also, is there a way to change this to the generally accepted way of moving files with a GUI?

Lock interaction on current screen

I'd like to lock the current screen so that it continues to update its display but prevents others from interacting with it until they log in. Does anything like this exist? I haven't been able to find it.

Creating a WPA3 Wi-Fi hotspot fails all the time
br flag

When I am trying to create a Wi-Fi hotspot that should offer a WPA3 Personal encryption, all CPUs are running mad for a few seconds before Ubuntu tells me that the creation of the hotspot failed. Everything works fine when I am using WPA & WPA2 Personal encryption but I would like to avoid that type of encryption.

What can I do in order to solve the problem?

Since today, the Wifi on my Dell XPS laptop computer with Ubuntu 20.04 installed stopped working. It says, wifi adapter not found. As suggested here, My wireless/WiFi connection does not work. What information is needed to diagnose the issue?, I created this output to diagnose the problem:

How to install fresh install Ubuntu from running machine?
it flag

This is a basic problem that has perplexed me for a while. On a machine running Ubuntu, is it possible to mount a new disk, run the Ubuntu installer the same as you would from a live CD and install on that new disk? I haven't figured out how to find the installer program(s) or what would prevent me from doing so. It sure would aid in deployment of the rare single machines if I could do a net install fro ...

Upgrading Ubuntu 21.04 to Ubuntu 21.10

Limited disk space, so .... How much free disk space is required (on a Ubuntu 21.04 machine) to upgrade to Ubuntu 21.10? The system requirements that I see are only for a fresh install rather than what is necessary to fit the manipulation files above existing Ubuntu 21.04 files.

How can I undo `setsid gnome-shell --replace`?
cn flag

I entered this command misunderstanding what would happen and it changed all my desktop manager settings. I already rebooted twice (and selected Xubuntu as usual) but some settings are still changed. I have fewer workspaces than before, there's an annoying sound whenever I press backspace too often, I have a panel at the top of my main monitor that has no setting to remove it, and my keyboard shortcuts  ...

Couldn't log in because the gdm3 login screen has no password field, see screenshot:

The unability to switch from current session to the TTY3 text console (Ctrl+Alt+F4 or F3 didn't work here) forced me to restart in recovery mode in order to select lightdm instead of gdm3 using:

sudo dpkg-reconfigure lightdm

which did work fine.

I retried:

Dual boot Ubuntu - Mac Os Issue
cn flag

I installed Ubuntu in dual boot on my mac without using rEFInd. Initially everything worked fine, I could access both systems. Later, in an attempt to remove Ubuntu, I deleted a partition I had created for swap and since then grub has replaced the mac's boot loader. So now I can only access Ubuntu. I would like to be able to access mac os again without losing any data. How can I do that ? Thanks

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
