my laptop is not recognizing any external monitors over HDMI after updating from Ubuntu 20.04 to 21.10. (I also tried screen sharing on Google Meet and got a black screen when sharing the entire monitor, probably related)

I tried running Nvidia 470 and 495 drivers. Main graphics driver shows up as Mesa Intel® UHD Graphics (CML GT2). The laptop has a i7-10750H and an RTX 2070 Super MaxQ.

Ubuntu Fingerprint not available for domain users
tr flag

Hello guys hope you can help me out, currently I have a fresh install of Ubuntu Desktop 21.10.

I successfully added it to my windows domain controller, users works great but the only option that I see it’s missing is the fingerprint on users section. Note: For local Ubuntu user fingerprint works, but for domain users not, did I need to add them to a group to get fingerprint working?

Cannot set fan speed on RX 6700 XT on ubuntu 20.04.3 kernel 5.11 rocm 4.5
cn flag

I try to set fan speed on RX 6700 XT on ubuntu 20.04.3. Currently I'm using ubuntu 20.4.3 with kernel 5.11.0-40 and try to control it using rocm 4.5 with its cli, rocm-smi -setfan, however despite it says that it set the fan speed, its RPM remain zero.

I've been swapping kernel and driver versions, different opencl and rocm version, but nothing works. Any suggestion?

Linux/Ubuntu - restricting use of CA cert to just wireless
au flag

We have a user who is trying to set eduroam up on his Ubuntu 20.04 PC, he has installed our CA cert (it's a local CA), but is there a way he can restrict the use of this certificate to certain purposes (so in this case just wireless connections)? I think you can do this with other OS's, and we recommend that users do this, but I don't know how to do this in Linux.

Thanks in advance,

Guy

Multiple Monitors not Detected, Radeon RX580 on Ubuntu 21.10

I'm running a Radeon RX580 on Ubuntu 21.10. I've been using Ubuntu on this machine since late 2018 with no real graphics issues. Yesterday morning (Nov. 10 2021) the system had updates and asked me to reboot. When I did, the single HMDI monitor is detected, but the two display port monitors are not. xrandr does not show the other drivers, and passing the various AMD flags into the grub config does not c ...

Private APT repo doesn't return Packages.gz

So, here's the thing. I'm trying to create a private repo for our deb packages, it passes the apt update (since we don't sign them - we use [trusted=yes] option in source list), but after update all i see in /var/lib/apt/lists are just Release files, and not Packages, so i can't even check what is in my private repo with apt-cache policy <package> or smth like this.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
