How can be used the "^" character at the end of an installation package on apt
cn flag

I have an special question about APT command-line tool. When I use sudo apt install ubuntu-desktop^ does different things than sudo apt install ubuntu-desktop. I don't know why this happened, and why it do not work with all packages like if you do it with gparted like: sudo apt install gparted^ it does nothing. So I want to know how the final ^ works on apt and why it works just in special cases.

It's in Spanish, but quite self explanatory. In the institute where I work, every student has a PC. The host is a Windows 10 PC with virtualbox 6.1.26 and extension pack.

I created a Ubuntu 18.04 virtual machine which would act as a firewall/router with two network adapters -- the first to get the IP dynamically from the institute and access to internet, and other for th ...

Splash screen appears at startup and at reboot after dist-upgrade from Hirsu to Impish
ug flag

I just finished the (partial) dist-upgrade from Hirsu to Impish. I start into console text login. Despite my text login Ubuntu now the splash screen appears at startup and before reboot and hides all the text messages. I ran

sudo update-grub2

as recommended in some articles to no avail.

Any ideas on how to get back to past behaviour?

Why does Kubuntu no longer prompt for a reboot after a kernel upgrade?
sa flag

I run Kubuntu (currently 21.04 Hirsute, getting ready to dist-upgrade to 21.10 Impish) and check for updates daily. I do it from Konsole:

sudo apt update

sudo apt full-upgrade

For as long as I can remember, whenever there was a new kernel, a little reboot icon would appear in the system tray. When clicked, it would ask for confirmation and then reboot. For a while now, this has no longer been the case. ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
