I recently bought a used Lenovo Thinkpad T470. After installing Ubuntu 20.04 and using it a little while, I noticed that it would freeze once in a while, apparently the SSD disk stopped responding. After this I could always restart the system and things would be fine.

But then the other day it crashed while the system was updating and when booting I would get the message that the system gave up w ...

How can i copy the content of a directory into a text file?
ng flag

Let me be clear, what I just want to do is to copy the content of the directory (as if it just were a normal text) into a text file. Is there a command I can use to do that? (a variant of cp maybe?) Or is ctrl+c the only solution?

Message body not sending using mailx
jp flag

I've just upgraded a 16.04 LTS machine to 18.04 LTS. Since doing that a script has not been sending emails in the same way. It pipes the message body to mailx and also attaches a file. The original script had the following:

cat <<EOF | /usr/bin/mailx -s "$HOSTNAME Server Update" -a $LOGFILE $RECIP
This is the output from the safe-upgrade on $HOSTNAME run on

`date`

My laptop connection speed to internet is so slow when it's connected to router wifi. But when connected via ethernet wire everything is normal. Also when it is connected to mobile phone hotspot or when I use it in Windows OS, it works perfectly.

Please help me, thanks.

Dolphin reading remote folders is slow
pe flag

I've mounted several folders from a my NAS and when I try to access them using Dolphin with KDE Plasma 5, it starts to read and try to get the number of elements of each folder.

It takes a lot of time to do that (even, several minutes) because I've got a huge library of files and folders inside.

Is it possible to disable this feature with remote folders or anything to avoid that behaviour?

Thanks!

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
