Fan increases when laptop lid closed ubuntu 21.04
ru flag

I have just installed Ubuntu 21.04 on my Thinkpad T550s. Previous to this (20.04) I left my laptop lid closed while using an external monitor for general use.

Since upgrading the fan runs fast when the lid is closed but when open it is silent. Does anybody know why this behaviour could have changed?

Identify which user added ppas
cn flag

I am responsible for a system, which someone else had setup. Sadly we just started documentation after I took the honor. We had an issue with old bionic packages since we dist-upgraded to 20.04 and solved it, but we are still messing with a few ppa's which I in first place need to figure out what they provide and in second place who installed them.

Is it possible to figure this out?

Weird behaviour in Some Windows in Ubuntu 20.04 (KDE-Plasma)
ru flag

I have recently reinstalled my nvidia driver (the latest supported version is apparently 390.11 for my GPU), and after reinstalling and setting the prime settings on nvidia on demand, Tilix's fonts are generated poorly and the cursor shifts a bit to left in some positions. I do not experience the same issue in an XTerm instance.

I do not know if this gets replicated in any other window as of now, but ...

I'm using a 128GB USB drive to run both LINUX 20.04 and ROS Noetic on my Mac and have run into the issue of "Not enough space on device" when I attempt to download gazebo9. I find this very hard to believe as the these two systems alone should be able to fit on a 32 GB drive. I've attempted to use commands like sudo apt-get clean and sudo apt-get autoclean to free up some space, but that doesn't s ...

Problem with partitions in Kubuntu leading to pc crashing

Question: Are my partitions causing problems with my Kubuntu and result in it crashing?

Problem: I think my partitions are wrong and thus my Kubuntu crashes often, which leads me to think it is a memory problem, since either my screen freezes or goes dark. Then I usually hit the restart button on my pc.

In KDE Partition Manager I deleted the windows partition after installing Kubuntu, so its marked  ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
