21.10 blank screen on 2 differant laptops
cn flag

I did a clean install of Ubuntu 21.10 on two laptops with the same results. They would boot to a blank screen when the install finished and ask to remove the drive and press enter. After booting up it presented a blank screen. The hardware was a newer Lenovo and an older HP. 21.04 worked just fine so I went back to 20.04.3 LTS.Hopefully the new LTS will work on the next release. Just a heads up

Choosing Applications after search with left/right buttons not working anymore

When opening the applications window in Gnome 40 (Ubuntu 20.10) and typing some letters to search for an application, I can not choose the app with left/right buttons anymore. The searchbar looses focus when I try to move to the side. When I type again the focus is on the searchbar and moving with the arrow keys moves inside of text.

Moving down chooses the other search options, but moving back u ...

I'm looking for packages compatible with Ubuntu 20.04 LTS that facilitate using the computer without hands. Examples include:

  • eye gaze tracking mouse software
  • dictation software capable of coding

Strong preference to users who have experience with the packages they are recommending. I tried to install https://eviacam.crea-si.com/index.php but it is broken for Ubuntu 20.04 :/

Can't restore corrupted compiler on Kubuntu 20.04

I use the FreePascalCompiler (FPC) version 3.0.4 on command line level under Kubuntu 20.04.2 LTS and ended up corrupting it myself. Now I find no way to do a clean reinstall of FPC. I suppose the problem is Ubuntu-specific, that's why I put my question here.

This what I have done: I wanted to use in a tiny program of mine a special function that is only available when the unit LConvEncoding is in ...

Set default boot options in grub with persistent live USB

I tried a bunch of times to install Ubuntu Budgie 20.04.3 on an old Acer Spin 1. Every time it would get almost all the way through but then fail when trying to install grub. After days spent trying to figure it out it seemed that something about the type of hard drive was the problem and it felt out of my league to fix it so I gave up, and opted for a bootable USB stick with persistent storage instead. ...

Unallocated space missing
in flag

I have a 1tb SATA HD that was formerly partitioned for my Ubuntu home directory. When I mount it as an external drive and to try and reformat it, it shows up as 31.8mb of space, with no other unallocated space or partitions. I have tried reformatting in multiple ways, using both gparted in Ubuntu, and Disk Utility on a Mac. Is there a way to recover the actual disc space, or is this a hardware issue?

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
