Black screen with white dots on installation
vn flag

I'm trying to reinstall Ubuntu 20.04 because my installation went into grub rescue and I couldn't fix it. When I connect the USB and boot it stays black, and after a while this black screen appears with white dots and it does not go beyond there.

Boot error image

When I press a key the computer restarts, and it is a second screen because it is a laptop and the main screen is broken.

pl flag

I installed ubuntu for standalone onto a usb stick using usb to usb install, but it now seems grub is installed on one of my hard drives, I prev had a duel boot windows boot loader for 2 ver of windows which is still available, but I’m assuming grub shouldn’t be on my hard drive with a portable ubuntu install on usb stick, how can I safely remove grub from the hard drive ?

How to do a fresh install on every boot
st flag

I want my servers to come up cleanly on each boot rather than having state which persists across boots. Short of PXE-booting, is there any way to do this? In particular, I’m curious if live-CDs do something similar (writes don’t persist—perhaps they use an in-memory filesystem)?

How can I change the terminal beep from the default "drip" to "glass"?

I know I can open Settings, select Sound, and then, in the Alert Sound section, select "Glass".

How can this change be achieved using the command line?

I have a desktop running Ubuntu 20.04. I can start the computer and I am prompted for my password but when I enter the password nothing happens. My password has not changed. I do not get an 'incorrect password' message, the computer just goes back to the screen where I need to enter a password. I cannot get past this phase.

Recently I did get a message like this. Thinking that I had a graphics driver pr ...

The command shown in the documentation for creating a new Ubuntu package fails with an error.

AMD Radeon HD 7560D Driver on Ubuntu 20.0.4

So here's my problem. I have a spare PC running Ubuntu 20.0.4, and it uses integrated graphics. The CPU is an AMD A8-5500, and the graphics are AND Radeon HD 7560D. I have searched everywhere for an up-to-date driver, but everywhere I look is horrifyingly out-of-date. I couldn't even find the driver on AMD's website, until, after a while, I did. How do I configure multiple interfaces in Network Manager?

Ubuntu Desktop 20.04

I seem to be misunderstanding something. My workstation is plugged into wired Ethernet. When I opened NM, one interface said it was connected, so I configured that with a static address (by clicking on the gear icon next to it).

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
