Computer slow on Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS (was fast for 30 days after installation)

I found a Dell XPS M1730 in my box of computers and wanted to bring it back to life with Linux. 30 days ago, I installed Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS (Focal Fossa) and was impressed with the speed of Ubuntu. I could go onto YouTube in just 1 second and load a normal webpage as fast as I can snap my finger. But after 30 days I am experiencing slowness:

  • Firefox takes 4 seconds to load
  • Settings take 3 seconds

I recently bought a Huaweii X Mate Pro. For a little time the right click was working, then I left the computer off for says 3/4 days and today in reopening (even restarting).

I installed Tweaks and even tried editing the settings in the 01-input.conf file under the /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d folder and the same file (sort of) in the /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d folder without success.

Is it normal to get less than half the battery life on ubuntu compared to windows?
sl flag

I have read a lot of similar questions on askubuntu but all of them mention losing not more than an hour or two of battery life and even then just suggest tlp. For me, I get 6.5 hours of battery life on Windows 10 (battery saving mode) but only 3 hours of battery life on Ubuntu. I installed tlp which increased it by half an hour. Is this normal?

Thanks for any answers or helps!

Can't boot Ubuntu after reinsntallation, no available boot options for Ubuntu in the BIOS either

I previously had Ubuntu, but I had to delete it for some reason, so my PC just had Windows at the moment. Then for college work I had to install Ubuntu again. I installed Ubuntu again using the same procedure that I followed during the previous installation. I heard that it's a safer option to dismount the hard drive containing Windows before installing Ubuntu so I did just that, and I installed Ubuntu  ...

How to make service A stop if service B crashes or stops
cn flag

Using system-d: I have 2 services (Service A and Service B). Service B needs Service A to always be running. If service A ever crashes or is stopped, Service B should also be immediately stopped until service A is restored (At which point in time service B should start back up automatically). Is there a directive that can be put into the system.d unit files to force this type of a relationship?

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
