Gnome logs me out when connecting to external monitor [Ubuntu 21.10, Dell XPS 9310]
br flag

I'm using a USB-C hub to connect power and a hdmi external display to my laptop, which means easy connection with one cable. However, whenever I connect it gnome will revert me to the login screen. And after I log in all my windows are gone, it's a new session.

Also, often when I disconnect the monitor, the system will restart.

I've tried disabling extensions but no difference.

Any Ideas?

Sequence of shortcuts not working when holding down CTRL
mx flag

I somehow miss-configured Ubuntu and I don't know what I did, this is what happened.

The problem: Only the first shortcut in a sequence of Ctrl-left shortcuts is executed, when the Ctrl key is kept pressed.

We frequently use series of shortcuts, for example when browsing we copy some text in the current page, open a new tab and paste in the search bar. This would require the following combination: Ctrl ...

Problem enabling dnsmasq

I work on Ruby on Rails project which uses some subdomains and custom domains. I have installed dnsmasq server and added this to the starting of the file:

But that doesn't work automatically. Each time my laptop boots I have to set IP address in resolv.conf file like this:

WSLg Ubuntu app icons not showing up on taskbar

I recently upgraded to Windows 11 and decided to try out WSLg and some Linux GUI apps. To that end, I got Eye of GNOME for viewing images.

However, when I open the app, the icon in the taskbar is the default WSLg icon of the penguin, and I don't know why. I even installed the Adwaita Icon Package but that simply removed the warning. The icon didn't change.

problem with ubuntu 21.10 and nodejs

I just upgrade my Ubuntu from 21.04 to 21.10.
I did the upgrade by the do-release-upgrade command so, the upgrade is finished and my problems begin: I use GO and nodejs packages, after upgrading the system can't use nodejs or even reinstall it.

When I run the node -V command the output is like this: node: bad option: -V

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
