Installation with just`sudo apt install shellinabox` results in certificate error. How do I make shellinabox work?
th flag

I have 2 servers which both are running on Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS.

I managed to install shellinabox on one of them years ago, which automatically generates some files like certificate.pem in /var/lib/shellinabox/. However I can't remember what I did to make the server generate those files.

I run the following commands on the other server, as a tutorial suggests

sudo apt update
sudo apt install shellina ...

Trying to burn a USB bootable with Win10 from linux. Wasted a whole evening by now. :-(

Installed woeUSB and read the tutorials. Tried various things, even switched from USB drive. Did not format it at 1st then NTFS. It seems uefi-ntfs is larger than 512kB.

Here's the 'curse' and result from CLI:

How can I run Photocollage on ubuntu 21.10?
fr flag

Photocollage makes a bigger combined image from a number of specified inputs. Maybe not a straightforward program, but it used to work. Now, under Ubuntu 21.10 it segfaults immediately.

The program is a simple Python script, that bails out on this line:

from photocollage import gtkgui

I'm far from a Python expert, so I don't know what's missing. Previously it just ran as it was, but not now.

Why has my bug report on Launchpad not been addressed?

Several months ago I reported this bug:

(Also documented here on Ask Ubuntu).

I noticed many other bug reports were of a similar nature - software configuration bugs in hardware interfaces. So I marked them as duplicates, and my post got heaps of heat! But there has been zero action for months. Can anybody explain why? Is Laun ...

Have a systemd process not run during installation

I am creating a custom Ubuntu ISO that once installed runs a kiosk program.

My issue is that the Kiosk program launches and can be seen while Ubuntu is still installing.

My idea is to edit the systemd file and add a requires= category and specify a process that runs during normal system operation but not during installation. I'd like to know a process that does that, or another method of preventi ...

Can not disable wakeup on opening lid

On my Lenovo T440p with Ubuntu 20.10 - Regolith-desktop I have the issue, that I can't disable the wakeup on opening the laptop lid.

I already tried the solution presented in most instructions of changing the file in /etc/systemd/logind.conf. This didn't work. I could also not find any setting in the BIOS/UEFI.

Since I figured out the solution and couldn't find it anywhere, I present it here, in  ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
