USB serial devices not showing in /dev/serial/by-id/ after update from 21.04 to 21.10
kp flag

Architecture is arm64 running on a RPi 4 2gb. The serial device is any of my 3d printer boards running Klipper firmware.

USB device was working perfectly fine before update. I've also tried a fresh install of 21.10 to make sure it wasn't an update issue, but still having the same problem. Installing a fresh copy of 20.04 LTS fixes the issue, so I'm fairly confident the issue is related to some c ...

Idea is when that information is known to make a play of a file list, or better of read my full "read later" youtube playlist without changing permanantly the sound level.

BUT I want here a scripted solution as far as I want that to be also available for my local files.

Ubuntu 21.04: CUDA 11.4 installation tries to install driver incompatible with hardware
cn flag

I’m trying to install CUDA 11.4 on my Ubuntu 21.04 machine, which has a Tesla K40m installed.

Because the K40 is so old, it is not supported by the latest nvidia-driver-495. I have driver 470.74 installed, which works well.

I’ve followed the directions to add the Ubuntu 20.04 Nvidia repo and tried

sudo apt install cuda-11-4

This has a dependency on nvidia driver >=470.52.02 so it tries to upd ...

Debugging root partition not unmounted on reboot in Ubuntu 20.04
sz flag

I have a problem where every time I reboot my Ubuntu 20.04, if I do a fsck on my root partition (from a Live Boot USB), I will get

Recovering journal [...] clearing orphaned inode [...]

This indicates my root partition was not unmounted successfully on reboot.

Is there a way to debug this process somehow, or maybe hook into it and try to unmount my partitions manually to see where/why it fails? Or does a ...

What is python-minimal?
vn flag

I had a problem that gave me an error message in the terminal whenever I tried executing a command. I checked a forum, and the most helpful solution instructed me to run this command:

sudo apt-get --reinstall install python3-minimal

So did I reinstall a file named 'Python3-minimal', or did I reinstall a 'minimal' version of python3? I am new to all this, so please forgive me for such a dumb question.

How to automatically change laptop's scaling factor when external display is (dis)connected?
bd flag

When I connect to my external monitor, the scaling factor I prefer is 1x but when I'm working only on my monitor's display, I prefer 1.10x.

Is there a way in which I can automate the process of changing this scaling factor in gnome-tweaks such that it switches to 1.10x scaling factor whenever I connect my laptop to another monitor using HDMI?

how to overclock multiple Nvidia gpus - xorg.conf issue?

I have a GTX 1080 and 1660ti on Lubuntu 20.04 with Nvidia-470 driver, trying to overclock both. Currently Coolbits is enabled through /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-nvidia.conf, but this only allows for overclocking of one gpu. The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
