Running Systemd Service as User Rather Than Root
gb flag

systemd noob, here.

I have inotifywait watching a folder and running a script when conditions are met. I set up a systemd service file to run this script as a daemon on startup, but it runs the script as root. I am wondering if there is a way to get the service to run as the current user (rather than specifying a user in the service file) so that $HOME is correct for the current user, allowing me to add  ...

I'm on Ubuntu 20 focal and I am trying to build Blender as a Python module. The final step of the build instructions is where I am having problems.

My building gets to 100%, but then fails with the following output:

How to upgrade docker-compose
jm flag

My Ubuntu 20.04 installs version 1.25.0 of docker-compose while the most recent version is 2.0.1 (why is that?).

Is there any method to force Ubuntu to install the latest version?

If not, so I have to follow the official instructions, but the curl command is pointing to /usr/local/bin directory while on my machine it is installed on /usr/bin.

So what is the safe method to upgrade my package?

Connect two PCs over Internet
br flag

Suppose I have 2 PCs running linux (say, Ubuntu 20.04). One of them is mine, other one belongs to a person who lives in another city district.

These are ordinary PCs: they both access Internet through local provider's network, so you can't access them by IP address solely.

How could I set up routing on these two PCs to be able to connect via ssh?

Somehow, I managed to fix it by

*fsck /dev/sda1 -y*

and then

sudo reboot

and then restart my laptop and it's done.

Problem

later my windows 10 that I had installed on the internal SSD won't boot!! ...

Ubuntu 21.10 resume produces blank screen

After upgrading from Ubuntu 20.10 to 21.10 (via 21.04, which I didn't test for suspend/resume behaviour), suspend/resume no longer works properly.

If I use the proprietary NVIDIA driver metapackage from nvidia-driver-470, the system seems to suspend ok -- using the power button (equivalent to systemctl suspend) --, but on resume, the display stays black and I have to power off to escape this.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
