Wifi breaks after laptop lid close / suspend
in flag

I have an issue where upon closing the lid of my laptop (defined behaviour is to suspend), my wifi will break entirely. I've tried on both Arch and Ubuntu and the same issue occurs. I have tried restarting NetworkManager to no avail. It appears the wireless interface is being set to the DOWN state, but nothing seems to be able to bring it back up, without a reboot.

Using Ubuntu 21.04.

ke flag

I hope someone will be able to help me with this issue that is driving me crazy. I have a Dell XPS 7590 (2019 model) that I've recently upgraded to Windows 11 Pro. I updated it to Windows 11 about two months ago, when it still was in beta and I've never had any problem in dual booting it with Ubuntu 20.04.

Cannot connect to server after release upgrade
gw flag

I was in the process of upgrading an old 16.04 LTS, and seemingly locked myself out with no way back in. Help.

I followed the basic steps:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade -y
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
sudo do-release-upgrade

During the release-upgrade, everything went smoothly. No error messages, nothing - it's the restart that killed my access to the system. The secondary SSH process started by  ...

Xubuntu Thunar use middle click to open file?
ru flag

I am trying out Xubuntu on my second pc. I really like it so far. Works with my USB wifi better than Ubuntu Mate. But Thunar is the one possible hold back to using it on my main pc. Is there any way to use middle click to open file like Caja? It seems really odd it isn't an option because Thunar uses middle click to open a folder. Other features I like in Caja are bookmarks, displays the number of items ...

How can I add an icon on the taskbar for a running application without icon?
ng flag

Some applications run perfectly fine, however, they do not show any icon in the taskbar as shown below:

Screenshot of the taskbar

Notice that all the running applications have icons except the last one (see the arrow) where the application runs perfectly.

When I search for the application to run it, it has an icon, but once it is running it has no icon in the taskbar.

What is wrong? how can I fix that?

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
