Bash Autocomplete Package with IDE-like Feature
my flag

Using Ubuntu 20.04. I was wondering is there an open source package or extension that will make the bash terminal feel like an IDE with dynamic autocomplete suggestions while typing (without pressing tab and moving to the next prompt).

I have in mind something like this, as offered in any IDE.

jp flag

I am trying to connect a USB HUB and at the same time connect a mouse but when I connect it in this way, my mouse stops working, but visually Ubuntu recognizes it and in fact when I connect it directly without the hub it works for me.

Are there any special settings that I am skipping over?

ls (list) not showing all the files

A few days ago I was trying to see a few files in a directory after trying the ls command, and noticed some of them were missing. After retrying the command all files showed up. However this same issue happened again (see anti_pd1_pt9.sam, showing up on the second ls, but not in the first, last line)

It apparently knows there is something there (because of the size of the directory is the same in all li ...

I want to setup my FTP area to work as follows:

Setup a group of folders under /home, one for each user:

  • /home/ftp/usrA

  • /home/ftp/usrC

Each user must have a login user/pass and access to every folder and file in that /home/ftp area.

Furthermore, any new folders created by users using ftp client should have permissions set as stated above.

Updating Applications with Vulnerabilities
us flag

I am using the default Ubuntu Distros in an Azure Bionic VM. I would like to update software with vulnerabilities such as VIM, but it seems the only version available in these Distros is version 8.0. Shouldn't the security distro have an update available for VIM and any other software with vulnerabilities ? Need some 101 Guidance here please.

Lubuntu installed image for USB
aw flag

I wanted to do a full install of Lubuntu on a USB stick but after reading about the risk of messing up the internal drive, found the following link but it is for Ubuntu. It looks like a less risky way to get a full install onto an external drive.

Is there a similar image like this for Lubuntu that I can download? Thanks in advance.

I am using Ubuntu on Windows with WSL. The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
