I have a dell xps 13 which is running ubuntu 20.04 and is connected to an external screen via an usb-c to hdmi cable.

This worked fine for a year and now it has started to randomly disconnect every 5 minutes. Separately a couple of months ago it started behaving weirdly, when I plug it into all other ports other than one specific one where it works fine, the screen flickers continuously. This cou ...

Ubuntu 18.04 provides version 0.13, but I need 0.15 (already available in Ubuntu 20.04).

Is there a PPA for the latest version of this package available for 18.04?

Is it safe to download the .deb and install it myself?

I am using openvswitch to mirror traffic coming in or going out of a VM interface. Traffic is mirrored to output-port and could capture the packets on the output-port.

Package in hirsute-updates depends on package in hirsute-proposed

EDIT: I'm running Ubuntu 21.04 hirsute.

Since this morning, apt shows linux-modules-nvidia-470-generic-hwe-20.04 to be upgradable on my machine, but fails to actually install the update. Unfortunately, nvidia-smi also stopped working, so I suspect this might be related.

EDIT: Here's the output of sudo apt update:

Ubuntu 20.04.03: computer freezes randomly in rare circumstances
us flag

Five days ago I installed Ubuntu 20.04 LTS on my computer. As the title says, from time to time the computer would freeze completely, and I have no chance of giving any input to the machine since mouse and keyboard do not work. It doesn't happen regularly, but when it does I'm forced to turn off the computer using the power button. This is my hardware configuration

I log into my ubuntu20.04 laptop using my companies AD credentials, it's connected to the kerberos AD realm and this works fine in general. We also have a VPN which I connect to through a modified NetScaler Gateway client that works on 20.04. How can I prevent Ubuntu from swapping when there is sufficient physical memory?

I have an Ubuntu 20.04 desktop system with 16 GB of physical memory and 8 GB swap.

After some uptime and somewhat heavy usage, I noticed swap space was almost fully used while physical memory was just below 50%. Consistently with that, I noticed poor performance when returning to applications that had been in the background for longer, complete with disk chatter – so apparently the system was b ...

Usually this happens when resuming laptop from sleep having previously been connected. When the client tries to reconnect is just hangs indefinitely and shows reconnecting in the status.

The annoying this is I cannot cancel this, or kill the nord vpn process, leaving with no open other than to reboot.

I have Ubuntu 18.04, and use deja-dup for making a backup of my folders into an external disk. I have the error:

Deja-dup was working under Ubuntu 18.04 normally for some time, I think it stopped because of some automatic updates.

How can I recover files from a broken dual boot installation?

I have an MSI GL73-8RD with an SSD and an HDD. I installed windows on the SSD with some files stored in the HDD, then partitioned the HDD and installed Ubuntu 18.04 there.

Later on, Ubuntu was upgraded to 20.04. I just had to click a prompt. Apparently this resulted in 20.04 being installed alongside 18.04, but for some reason I can't use my password on the 18.04 installation anymore.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
