2017 Imac screen brightness after installing Ubuntu 20.4
jp flag

I have just installed (July 2021) Ubuntu 64 bit 20.4 on a 2017 Intel iMac

The sound was a problem, I have resolved that.

The Screen brightness is also a problem. I can not adjust the screen brightness using the Ubuntu software

I have little to no understanding of Ubuntu and command line instructions so will need to be led.

Anyone out there can spare some time to get the problem resolved?

Can you clear two drives by installing Ubuntu/use two drives with the same installation?

I'm new to this kind of thing, (and lacking a lot of the proper terminology) so I'm not entirely sure what information I should be looking for. Hopefully I'm in the right place and not asking questions that have been answered countless times before.

System update misses things
ug flag

Why is it that if you run a system update or use dist-upgrade you're still left with things needing updating?

For example if you run a full system update and than open software updater it says "your system is up to date."

But if you open the software center and check for updates, there are still packages listed requiring update.

These sometimes include:

  • shared gnome ubuntu stack
  • gtk common theme

I have installed Ubuntu Core 18.04 on raspberry pi a few months ago with NextCloud.

I turned it on again yesterday. After a few minutes on, it restarted. I guess it did automatic updates (which is weird to me since i didnt ask for it, but I'm a first time user of Ubuntu).

Anyway, now the system is stuck at the loading screen with the Ubuntu logo core logo in the middle.

The trick here, to get into the g ...

pipenv as isolated place for running a program

I'm new to Linux operating system and currently learning using Ubuntu. I came to the part where you build virtual environment. I read that I should use pipenv instead of venv.

My ideal goal of using a virtual environment is creating an isolated place with all my needs to run a program (easily purge after I don't need the program anymore), but what I learned is using pipenv there's a difference be ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
