How to use Ubuntu Advantage with Landscape?

My understanding is that Ubuntu Advantage includes subscription to Landscape. I am trying the free subscription of Advantage which gives 3 machines subscription. I added one Ubuntu desktop (ua attach command) but that desktop was not automatically added to Landscape. I then added it to Landscape myself (landscape-config command) but it started using credits a ...

My system is stuck in Ubuntu logo
sy flag

I have been using Ubuntu 18.04 for a long time, but it is now running very slowly.
I saw a video from YouTube in which it restarts after removing some file.
When I restarted after doing this, my laptop turned off during updating.
Since then it has not started correctly, it does not proceed beyond the Ubuntu logo.

I tried the recovery mode in the boot menu.
It stops and shows the above picture.

Syslog says nginx failed to start becuase port 80 in use, but cannot find anything using port 80
in flag

Attempts to start Nginx fail. /var/log/syslog says:

nginx: [emerg] bind() to 0.0.0.0:80 failed (98: Address already in use)

lsof -i :80 returns nothing

I even tried doing sudo kill -9 'sudo lsof -t -i:80\' just before trying to start Nginx.

Any ideas?

How to change xrandr brightness without losing gamma settings?
au flag

KDE's Night Color feature I guess uses xrandr's gamma functionality, but I was hoping to adjust the brightness of my display using it. Unfortunately, doing so like this loses the "night color" because it resets the gamma:

xrandr --output DP-0 --brightness .8

Is there some way to query the currently applied values from xrandr so I can reapply them?

Ubuntu 20.04 – running script at shutdown/restart

I’m trying to run a script at shutdown and reboot without success. I have a script to run as root at startup and it works just fine: stored the script in /etc/init.d, created a link to it in /etc/rc2.d starting with S99 and make it executable. After some research I did the same with the shutdown script creating the links in /etc/rc0.d and /etc/rc6.d, making it executable and starting links name with â ...

Ubuntu USB port fried, now it won't suspend

my problem is really specific I think. I've spend countless hours trying to remedy it, but to no avail. So this is my problem, I own a Razer Blade 15, have Ubuntu 20.04 installed, yesterday I fried one of my USB ports (I was dumb and fried the damn thing). Now, everytime I close the lid, and the computer tries suspending, it doesn't. Syslog says it's a problem with USB2,

Is RPM on Ubuntu a thing now?
it flag

I will start by saying the obvious. In the past, rpm on Ubuntu definitely was NOT a thing. That much is obvious when you search for "rpm" at the top of this page. The closest we'd come was packages like alien that will convert .rpm packages to .deb format.

After a recent experience, I do not believe this to be the case now. In fact, I am sure that it's not.

For context, I will also add that rpm is a p ...

Sometimes my desktop would be stuck loading after I log in. I'd get an entirely purple screen with a functional mouse pointer but nothing else. The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
