hu flag

OS is Ubuntu 20.10 Kernel Source is linux_5.8.0-59.66

I am porting kernel modifications from Centos 7 Rhel 7.9 to Ubuntu.

The original unmodified Ubuntu kernel source compiles and runs cleanly on this machine. The compiler set up seems to be functioning properly.

My current problem is related to a system call I've added. The error generated is -

Cas

This is kind of a follow up to this post of mine.

I have the mac-address of my phone (samsung galaxy S9; though it shouldn't matter). I want to check if it's on the network or not. It doesn't have a static ip, so I need to check it using it's mac-address.

I'll refer to the mac-address of my phone with [1].

My computer has an Ubuntu 20.04 installation that I want to reinstall (same OS). The home directory is on the same partition as the rest of the OS. Can I simply install all of the programs and then copy the entire home directory with my files and the configs of the programs? Should I do it in reverse order?

How to use USB-A port for Displayport screen?
cn flag

I have a Dell Latitude computer running Ubuntu which has just 1 USB-C port. I would like to connect two external monitors. On my Mac, I use two USB-C to Displayport cables and that works very smoothly.

However, when I connect a USB-A to USB-C converter and then plug the USB-C <-> Displayport cable in, nothing shows up on the monitor.

Is this not supported by Ubuntu? Or maybe not even possible  ...

How to check most recent tweet via command line on Linux?

I have a highly active Twitter account that I sometimes write replies to. Whenever I can, I try to reply to it right away. Twitter has a feature that allows you to get notifications whenever someone tweets, but I have noticed that sometimes it lags for about 30 seconds.

I was thinking of using a program that checks what the most recent Tweet sent was to reduce the lag. I tried using wget and lynx

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
