Lost LVM after MBR to GPT
in flag

I accidentally deleted (not formatted) my Ununtu LVM partition on Windows today using it's Disk Management software. After a long night, I've managed to boot into Ubuntu again with my data intact.

However, now my Nvidia GPU won't work. After some googling it says that I need to boot with a GPT (i don't know why), but it seems like the case as I've the same setup (dual boot Win 10 + Ubuntu 20.04)  ...

I tried to upgrade my system from ubuntu 18.04 to 20.04 (running on a HP Zbook 15u) but the upgrade got interrupted. Now I am not able to start Ubuntu properly. Do you know how to fix the broken installation?

Here are more details:

  1. I used the Software Updater to upgrade from 18.04 to 20.04 LTS. During the “installing upgrades”-phase, the system shut down (first the screen froze, then it went black.  ...

21.04 nvidia-smi: no device found
cn flag

I am using intel integrated gpu (10600k). Ubuntu 20.04 didn't work with intel iGPU for some reason. Only fix found was to use 21.04. Apparently you need linux kernel 5.11 for it to work... 21.04 ships with that by default.

Now, I installed nvidia drivers 460 but the command nvidia-smi returns: No devices were found. I have a Tesla K80 in the system.

Edit: Solved, had to enable PCI BAR :)

I am trying to delete terabytes worth of folders and would like to see that things are actually being deleted. Currently, the command

find . -name "labelled_point_clouds" -type "d" -exec rm -r {} +

doesn't show anything and I will be left waiting for days not knowing if it is doing something. How can I have the command also output each folder it deletes?

Configuring LaCie 2big RAID 1 on Ubuntu

I just bought a LaCie 2big RAID drive. I comes in the box as configured for RAID 0, but I want to set it to RAID 1 to get redundant backups (as well as reformat it ext4).

I'm not sure what program I should use to set the Hardware RAID to RAID 1. LaCie offers tools, but only for MacOS and Windows.

The drive will mount:

7 unclaimed devices in lshw output

I have seen some similar questions to this but I have never seen one with as many unclaimed devices in the lshw output, I am wondering if this is normal. I know that unclaimed means that there is no driver associated with the device, but I can not interpret what these devices are. I have an HP ENVY 13.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
