In trying to debug another problem, I decide to switch away from the desktop GUI to a virtual console and login. So,I do "sudo chvt 2" and get to the login prompt on ...

Any ideas on how to proceed? I also have this question posted in the VBox forum.

Get first output from STDOUT and terminate process
hn flag

I want to scan a single QR-code and return the result to STDOUT. I discovered ZBar, which is a nice little program that almost does everything I need.

$ zbarcam --raw

scans QR-codes with the PC camera and returns the data to STDOUT. However, it does not terminate. The program scans multiple codes and returns them. It only stops by closing the video window or sending an interrupt.

xbindkeys double counting keypresses (not distinguishing between press and release)

I have a Logitech g502 Proteus mouse, and want to use the "Back" and "Forward" mouse buttons (typically used with browser).

I verified with xev that the mouse button presses are detected. I installed xbindkeys and using various online references setup .xbindkeysrc to map the mouse buttons (6 and 7) to press a series of keys to emulate the correct behavior.

monitor randomly loses connection

The problem started out of the blue (possibly after an update/upgrade) a few days ago, and I have been struggling with it ever since.

Every once in a while the screen goes blank and shows “no signal” message. There are only two ways to wake the monitor up: (1) shutdown and restart; (2) unplugging and replugging (which I may need to do more than once, at times). Unplugging and replugging occas ...

Hopefully someone can help. I have been struggling with this for a while.

I want to add a new firewall rule so that the private ip 192.168.0.15 to be allowed to acces the 6991, 8991 and 80 ports on the public ip 86.10.1.101, knowing the gateway is 86.10.1.10

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
