I'm using Ubuntu 20.04 LTS. Suddenly today, my Downloads folder went missing. After googling the problem, I used mkdir to create a new Downloads folder. It was created successfully, but the files inside it are missing.

When I run:

in the terminal, all the missing files are listed there, but when I try to open them through the terminal it says:

I'm opening the terminal by pressing Window + 2. I want that to open in ~/some-custom-directory

Thing is, I want new tabs within the terminal window to NOT be affected by this behavior, i.e. if I'm in ~/other-directory and open a new tab, I want it to open in the same directory ~/other-directory, and not default to ~/some-custom-directory

Is this possible? Can I change the behavior of opening a te ...

Can't connect to open secure port on Ubuntu
tk flag

I opened the 8443 port on which I run Clickhouse server. I can connect to SSH on 22 port, I can also connect to 8443 via SSH tunnel, however I can't connect normally to that host. I'm trying to connect from the Windows machine, if that is related anyhow. I even opened outbound port (pretty sure that it is redundant).

I tried to disable firewall and then I was able to connect. What can be wrong?

I run vmware 16 player on ubuntu 20.04. When trying to start a vm I was informed that the header file(s) for 5.11.0-22-generic could not be found. (So the startup could not continue.)

When trying to download the missing file (via update, upgrade . . .), I realized I had no wired internet connection. In fact, there was no trace of one, so there is nothing to start/restart. (I tried several approac ...

Ubuntu 20.04 wired connection speed limited

I have a 2Gpbs network connection, and a CAT7 LAN cable connecting my modem to my laptop.

However, Ubuntu shows it only as 100mb/s when I connect the LAN cable. Even my wireless is 300mb/s!

I connected the same LAN cable to a windows machine and it shows close to 1gb/s. So it's definitely not the LAN cable. There's some weird setting that's preventing the proper speed.

The error message I received is

And if installing both 3.8 and 3.9 can be done, how do I do that? Thanks

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
