Chrome/Firefox opened in Slack, PyCharm etc. are in the wrong sidebar groups
be flag

Usually, when I open Chrome/Firefox from Slack or PyCharm/IntellijIdea, it shows up in the sidebar group of the app that it was opened from. Then, other instances are being added to the group too.

It's very annoying and I can't figure out how to fix it.

Is there a universal solution for this?

How to Control the SSH Service
my flag

Ubuntu 20.04.

I have installed the openssh-server to test with ssh, but since then, whenever I boot up the system, the server starts running at port 22, which I feel is a security risk when I am connected with WiFi (and maybe it even hogs a lot of RAM).

So my questions are

  • How to control from the terminal whether the service starts at boot. I understand it has something to do with systemd, but so ...

Could I change ubuntu kernel as a customized one?
cn flag

If I want to change my kernel as customized one, below sequence is ok?

  1. download kernel source from kernel.org.
  2. do something with it.
  3. build it.
  4. copy vmlinux,.etc into /boot folder.
  5. reboot and choose custom kernel with grub, during boot.

I'm curious that this procedure is safe if I want to change my ubuntu 18.04 kernel (5.4) into 4.14 or older one. (3.18 or older)

Thank you.

Ok, I thought I'd try here before I get a refund on some things...

What I'm trying to do is use Amplitude 4 inside reaper (low latency reasons), and I bought a behringer fcb1010 midi foot controller. What I'm trying to do is be able to control the stomp boxes inside Amplitube with the midi controller. So far, even simply running under wine standalone, the controller isn't recognized by AT, or run ...

Is it possible to make Firefox stop using GPU to render?

Firefox sometime uses almost 30% of GPU utilization (measure by nvidia-smi) just by scrolling from the top to the bottom of a Wordpress page without any ads or video.

I usually use GPU to train neural networks which will use more than 90% of the utilization and because of that Firefox always spike or completely freeze. This forced me to use Google Chrome whenever I train something.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
