20.10 problems with full-upgrade on spamassassin and libdvdcss
sc flag

After running sudo apt update and sudo apt full-upgrade I still have the messages quoted at the end.

How to fix this?

As a workaround, I have installed libdvdcss manually as explained here and I may try the same with spamassassin but I would prefer to use Ubuntu packages.

web cam does not work ubuntu 21.04 with Lenovo X1 Gen 9

I can not get the integrated web cam working on my Lenovo X1 Gen 9 with Ubuntu 21.04. When opening Cheese I only see a black screen. It works with an external USB web cam. I have installed the latest updates and the latetes BIOS (1.39). The web cam shutter is open (no red dot).

Does anybody else has this problem and knows a solution? Any help is very appreciated.

GNOME stop detecting opened desktop apps instances on dash to dock
pk flag

Sometimes GNOME's dash to dock add-on loses open app instances and launch a new one, when I already am using one instance, this is not a workspace issue because the apps are opened in same workspace. It just loses tracing of what is open and launches again and it's very anoying.

It is happening on Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS and GNOME Shell 3.36.9

Anybody knows what it could be??

Screen refresh shows lines going up
ru flag

I'm kinda a new linux user, and I was using a Kubuntu distribution... Once I installed it, I noticed the screen image updating in a weird way...

The problem is this, and it happens both when moving windows, or even watching a film, so I guess that the problem is the refresh of the screen https://youtu.be/rRIsG84wGUY

I have updated my drivers to the last version. I have an NVidia 1050 mobile.

When I plug in a headset, the headset speakers work (although it does not recognise the headset mic, I have to go into settings and change the mic to the internal laptop mic).

Snap apps can't connect to VNC display

I have several snap apps running nicely in Ubuntu 20.04 (using the default Gnome Desktop). However, on a TigerVNC-Server on that PC (that uses XFCE4), most of the snap apps don't even launch. According to the error messages, at least one problem seems to be the connection to the VNC-server display (:37 for my server). Does anyone have suggestions how to make snaps work on the VNC display?

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
