Login not working after password change
cn flag

I ran into the unfortunate scenario of forgetting my password on an old laptop running Ubuntu. I didn’t think much of it and changed the password using passwd, not realizing my home directory was encrypted. When I go to login screen, it just flashes. I don’t have the pass phase for the encryption although I am trying to find it. Is there anyway to either do a factory boot get around that problem?

Trying to make office365 online feel like a desktop application
me flag

I recently installed Kubuntu on my wife's laptop. She's used to Windows, and I want to make her transition as seamless as possible. Plasma is nice as is, and it felt similar enough to Windows for her to be happy with. One thing she was concerned about was her ability to use MSOffice on Linux, as she's required to use it for her school assignments. My suggestion was that she try using Office 365 online f ...

Viewing pdf under Ubuntu, need rulers
cn flag

I need a little help with viewing pdf under Ubuntu. Unfortunately, there are not many analogues of the adobe reader for this system. In fact, all I need is a grid and rulers. For example, my typical task is to open two documents and compare the location of text, elements, and so on. For example, in an adobe reader - I can turn on the ruler and click on the desired mark on it, after that there will be a  ...

Suspend issues on Gnome 3 and Budgie but not on Mate
br flag

I've been having issues with suspend ever since Ubuntu 19.10 came out. The laptop I'm having this issue with is an HP Envy 13-ah0051wm that is currently fully updated with the latest BIOS. The suspend issue only happens when the desktop environment (either Gnome 3 (19.10 - 21.10) or Budgie (21.10)) is running. This does not happen on Mate (21.04 last tested). I can fall back to TTY and suspend all that  ...

in flag

I just recently moved from Win10 to Ubuntu 20.04 LTS .3 for a week. Everything was fined except one thing: Ubuntu usually freezes randomly (cant do anything, cant move the mouse or enter any key).

My laptop is hp 15da0xx, 8GB ram, core i7, 250MB Vram, Graphic card: Intel Corporation UHD Graphics 620 (rev 07).

Does anyone know how to fix this?

How can a single keystroke create 2 KeyPress events?

For no apparent reason, some keys on my keyboard started behaving strange. Most notably on the numpad I would get 2 numbers or a number and a sign with a single keystroke. Used command xev on the terminal and saw that some keys had 2 events for a single keystroke.

Here is an example of the results I got pressing key '9' on numpad.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
