I am trying to get awesome-terminal-fonts to work with gnome-terminal. I've tried various things. At this stage, the fonts show up if I run fc-list | grep Awesome:

How to open and listen ports Ubuntu
us flag

I would like to know how to open ports correctly on Ubuntu 20.04 VPS. Through a SSH connection, i openned the ports using the following command: sudo ufw allow 55402/tcp, although when i check the port on some website, the port 55402 is "filtered". Searching, i found that's because there's not an application listening to the port 55402. I'd like to know how to make Ubuntu listen to that port without usi ...

OpenRGB Kingston fury beast
jp flag

I have a Msi z490 gaming plus board with Kingston fury beast ram (I am on Ubuntu 20.04).

I used mystic lights in w10, to switch everything off. Therefore, I have followed the installation guides from git for openrgb. I can control everything except the ram.

I followed every step except the kernel patch. Do you know what I could do to have it work? Thanks.

The Mobo switch kills all LEDs but not the ram, ...

Windows sometimes render as multi-coloured static
cn flag

Sometimes, when I restore a minimised window it will be entirely rendered as multi-colored static, until I minimise and restore the window again.

This seems to happen most reliably with my VPN app, but I've also seen it happen with everything from Firefox to VLC and GIMP. When it happens with Anki it sometimes only happens partially, which I don't think I've seen for any other program. Here is a s ...

I am new to installing new OS's and I am currently having an issue installing Ubuntu 20.04 from a USB drive. I am installing from an already Windows Vista Home Basic machine.

Ubuntu 20.04 keyboard and mouse starts to work only after a long while after boot

Weird problems. I started my Ubuntu 20.04 machine today after having done nothing special last time I shut it down. First it greeted me with the bare minimum resolution 800*600 and nothing else selectable. Then I reinstalled the Nvidia drivers and full resolution came back.

Strange thing however, is that after booting, first I get to a black screen with a mouse pointer I can't move for quite a wh ...

Running dd if=/dev/sda of=/dev/md126 is taking some time so it seems like it's working but I am not sure what else may need to be done after to make the system bootable.

Question in short

What are the real life (security) risks of using Ubuntu ESM for personal use (Ubuntu for desktop) and what to look out for in general to keep the system secure? Do I need to do anything special and are there any pitfalls if I want to continue using this version?

Using keyboard and touchpad of HP Envy x360 when the device is in tablet mode

Like I said in the title - I pretty much want to use my laptop with and external monitor and still be able to use the keyboard and touchpad of my device. This works as long I use it in "normal laptop mode", but the monitor of my laptop has stopped working ages ago and I have no intention to replace it. It's just in the way and I would very much prefer to have it "flipped around" so it sits under the oth ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
