Using keyboard and touchpad of HP Envy x360 when the device is in tablet mode
ve flag

Like I said in the title - I pretty much want to use my laptop with and external monitor and still be able to use the keyboard and touchpad of my device. This works as long I use it in "normal laptop mode", but the monitor of my laptop has stopped working ages ago and I have no intention to replace it. It's just in the way and I would very much prefer to have it "flipped around" so it sits under the oth ...

Open document in an already-launched Xorg application from bash
tn flag

Is there a way to tell an already running x-program to open a file from bash? (I.e. without invoking a new instance of the program). While I am asking this question in the context of xstata-mp, I am interested more generally if this kind of solution exists in general for Xorg applications.

I have an x-application (xstata-mp, proprietary, which is salient to this question as you will learn) which  ...

Fsearch can't add external drives to index

I have two external drives that hold files I want to be able to access from both Windows and Ubuntu.

The drives are fat32 format and I can access them read-write and so on from both file explorer in Windows and dolphin in Ubuntu.

I've installed Fsearch for finding files faster in Ubuntu (like everything for Windows) but when I try to add them to the index through the folder mnt in fsearch I get

I currently have Ubuntu installed on my hdd. However, somehow it sized itself to use only have of my hdd, and created its partition on the tail end of the disk. This leaves the other half unallocated and I can not expand into it.

Any ideas?

Graphical glitches when installing Ubuntu 20.04

I'm trying to install Ubuntu 20.04 from a USB onto this old PC. Whenever it gets to the Install Ubuntu / Try Ubuntu screen, a weird graphical glitch starts happening that looks like the image below. This is my first time installing Ubuntu, so I don't know how to resolve this. Here's what the glitch looks like

Edit: The graphics card is an Nvidia Quadro FX 3500.

Touchscrewn on Acer Aspire not working

I see Acer has a number of issues with Ubuntu. I have 20.04; an Acer E15-575 2017 laptop and the mouse pad works fine, but (in addition to speaker issues) the touchscreen does not work. While this isn't a deal breaker, I would like to see if there is something simple I can do to get it to work. I am NOT a programmer. The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
