command-line z-base-32 encode/decode
th flag

Is there any command-line utility that can encode content using z-base-32? (described in RFC6189 point 5.1.6, see also wikipedia info)
it seems base32 cannot do it and googling has not helped either.

currently I'm doing

base32 |sed -e 'y/ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ234567/ybndrfg8ejkmcpqxot1uwisza345h769/'

but this seems lame and is probably ineffective for big input...

Ubuntu MATE: how to disable keyboard shortcut for file search tool?
us flag

Ubuntu MATE 21.10.

When I press [Meta+S] (aka [mod4+s] aka [Win+S]) it opens the "Search for files" or mate-search-tool utility in a new window.

I want to assign "Switch to the workspace below the current workspace" to this key combination (so I can use Meta+WASD to move around workspaces).

I can assign the key combo in the "Keyboard shortcuts" UI. But it only half works. When I press [win+S] it mov ...

New Linux User going through STIGs for Ubuntu. I receive Permission Denied when executing find commands. Trying to find out why that is and how to get around it if possible.

I started off with Sudo -s to elevate all further commands. The commands that are throwing the errors and the errors follow.

Need X-mouse button control for ubuntu
cn flag

So, I'm not much of a technical guy when it comes to Linux, and recently I wanted a software X-mouse button control for a specific change and a key remapping, knowing that I tried a windows 7 VM and tried it on there, worked perfectly fine. Ubuntu, on the other hand, does not have the software natively, it is a windows program, so I have been trying alternatives for 3 days but none of them seem to work  ...

How to set cgroup_memory=enable on Ubuntu 21.10

I have seen evidence to suggest that on Ubuntu 20.04 you add this line to /boot/firmware/cmdline.txt per Enabling memory cgroup in Ubuntu 20.04, however I have a /boot directory but not /boot/firmware, so where should I specify this for Ubuntu 21.10 ?

Infinite login loop (having tried dozens of solutions)

Tom

Running Ubuntu 20.04; 2x Geforce GTX 1080 Ti installed. This is the second time I ever encounter the infinite login loop problem; can't remember how I solved it last time, as it was years ago. I installed TensorFlow (pip install tensorflow), then following a power outage I couldn't login. I'm guessing the tensorflow installation messed up my nvidia drivers (last version installed: libnvidia-cfg1-460) or ...

Laptop suspend not working with open source drivers

I have trouble with the suspend feature on my laptop when using the open source drivers that Ubuntu installs. When I close the lid (or suspend manually from the top-right menu) the laptop screen locks up and goes to the login page, but there's nothing I can do anything to get out of that state, be it mouse or keyboard input. The only way out for me is to forcibly shut down the laptop by holding the pow ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
