Logging everything I see in a bash session
ru flag

I know I can have a look at my bash history in .bash_history and save that history.

This time I'd like to have both the commands as well as the complete output of those commands being logged to a text file, much like a "video" of what I'm doing, but in text format.

Does external mouse automatically disable touchpad?
in flag

This touchpad is driving me nuts. I'd like to replace it with an external wired mouse, which I'll have to obtain (an optical USB mouse I had lying around wasn't recognized). Will it automatically disable the touchpad on mounting or do I have to tell the system to ignore the touchpad?

Installing Ricoh SP112 printer on Ubuntu 20.04
ls flag

A friend lent me an elderly Ricoh SP112 to get me out of a fix when my own printer failed. It self installs on Ubuntu and shows up on the available printers. I can print a test page from the buttons on the printer, but I can't print from the computer. When a job is sent to print, the printer light registers and continues to blink, without printing. When I check the print queue no job is registered. I ha ...

Printing (Canon Maxify MB2750) only prints the first page of documents
ci flag

My Ubuntu 21.10 used to work fine with my Canon Maxify MB2750 Printer, but since recently, whenever I try to print multiple-page documents, it only prints the first page, and then stops as if printing was complete.

I tried to change drivers, remove and reinstall the printer, everything stays the same. Printer works perfectly fine with Windows or from Android.

Does anyone have an idea of the problem  ...

20.04.3 HP, Canon don't provide drivers. Is there a way around this?
cn flag

HP.LIP doesn't seem to work. Canon's driver site indicates no drivers available for the detected OS on several printers.

My old Epson Workforce 645 was great for a long time, but it needs replacing. I'm tired of printer roulette and how-to's for 20.04 that simply don't work. I followed on for a PIXMA MG3620, having bought that model because of the how-to, only to find it doesn't work.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
