Recently I got the idea of getting some courses done, like AD, Intune, Networking, therefore I have built 3 VM's (kvm with Cockpit interface). One is a domain controller and the other 2  ...

External monitors suddenly not detected - Ubuntu 20.04
pm flag

I've been using 2 external monitors with my laptop for about a year now with some minor issues (occasionally screen flickering). Yesterday they decided to call it quits and now neither are being detected by Ubuntu, and all advice I've seen doesn't seem to be doing anything.

Any help appreciated; please let me know what sort of diagnostic info you need. TY

I would like to give the NetworkManager several Mac addresses. And the hotspot may only allow these addresses. If an address is not included, the connection will be refused.

Does anyone have an idea how I can implement this?

Thanks!

Use SIM card on Ubuntu or Raspian or FritzBox or any PBX for mobile telephone calls
ru flag

I'm working from home most of the time, and so I'm using a landline for telephone (flatrate to landline numbers) and internet flatrate. But sometimes I have to work onsite, so my mobile phone has a SIM with telephone flatrate and some GB Internet traffic. So most of the time my mobile phone is off and useless, as well as my mobile telephone flatrate stays unused.

Here's my task:

I've got a source stream of live log output from a messaging process. Lots of output is irrelevant to me but there are sections i want to collect and evaluate separately. How can I configure a setting where netplan apply doesn't effect all my interfaces?
ru flag

So basically I run networking tests on my ubuntu machine and I use a few WAN interfaces and VLANS. I run openVPN tunnels over my WAN. whenever I decide to change one of my interface's configuration, if it's DHCP client to static IP or change the static IP and so on. I use netplan and not ifconfig, because I need the change to be permanent in case of a pulled cable and re-connection or ifconfig interface ...

Volume control with Sound BlasterX Katana
id flag

I'm using the Katana soundbar, and have an issue with volume control in KDE. When I use volume up or volume down hotkeys, it shows new level on the soundbar, but only software "system" volume changes. This limits maximum volume a lot. Same thing happens when using the remote, or soundbar volume control buttons.

What's curious it's that alsamixer can control the volume correctly, but running it is ...

How to change ua-timer.timer schedule?
it flag

I have specific schedules for my servers to go to the internet to update, currently have unattended updates schedule configured for a specific time of the day every day. It appears ubuntu advantage timer on my ubuntu 20.04 box has its own trigger that kicks off a couple times a day, at the wrong time. Obviously this conflicts with the internet schedules for the rest of my servers.

My Ubuntu 20.04 LTS Server wasn't responding so I've hooked it up to a mouse/keyboard/monitor. I am running it on an Intel NUC (NUC7i3DNHE).

It's showing the above kernel panic message. I have had this before when an update has failed to install, and remember following instructions to fix it by booting an older kernel version. I'm not sure if it was an auto-update that triggered the error this ti ...

Rearranging tabs in Chromium is broken (possibly due to upgrade to impish)

Kai

Previously I was able to rearrange my tabs in Chromium. When dragging them down, they would emerge as a seperate window.

Today, my tabs immediately emerge as a separate window, and can only be reinserted into the original window at the last position by using a contextual-menu on the tab (Move tab to another window).

I wonder how I can solve this: Is it a bug?

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
