Headless ssh-access to Ubuntu in RPI4
mx flag

I've run the rpi imager to burn the image into an SD card, and configured netplan to connect to wifi on start up.

Checked using arp -a and the address never showed, but I accessed the router and the rpi is there.

After trying to ssh it, arp -a shows the address (any thoughts?).

But the problem is, it says 'connection refused'. Exact log:

ssh: connect to host 192.168.1.19 port 22: Connection refused

Copy paste from terminal to browser in Ubuntu 21.10 not working
gh flag

trying to copy-paste a text from terminal to chrome, for example (or any other app). I see that in Ubuntu 21.10 the copy was changed to ^+6 (i.e. Alt + 6), while paste was changed to CTRL+U (however we all know what CTRL+U means when it comes to a browser).

Can I change it to original values (CTRL+SHIFT+C, CTRL+SHIFT+V, respectfully)?

Thanks!

How to setup netplan/networkd to detect an IP conflict being putting networking online?
in flag

We've hit an issue where our Ubuntu 20.04 systems seem to bring networking up without verifying there's no IP conflict that will occur. Our Red Hat based systems check for any collision and if detected don't bring the interface up.

We're using static IP assignments in netplan with networkd as the renderer. Is there a configuration option or setting that needs to be adjusted so Ubuntu will check t ...

Nvidia drivers disappeared after kernel upgrade
cn flag

I recently did sudo apt upgrade and I think this upgraded my kernel to 5.13.0-27-generic. (I think I also ran sudo apt autoremove.) Since then my graphics have been worse, e.g. windows 'split' when dragging them across the screen, or when scrolling through text, and the cursor is slow to catch up if I have fractional scaling enabled.

I went to check settings in the Nvidia GUI which I'd used previousl ...

Additional (2nd) battery is detected but not charged
sh flag

I have Ubuntu 20.04 running on a Fujitsu Lifebook s761 with two batteries. Both batteries are detected but only the main one is charged. Previously, Windows was running on the laptop and the second battery worked as intended and was charged.

Does anyone have an idea why the battery is not charging and a suggestion on how to solve the problem?

Thanks in advance, toni

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
