Can I check log files in Wayland to fix my Ubuntu problem?
cn flag

I am able to log into Ubuntu Wayland (20.04) but I am having a problem with regular Ubuntu. I have been advised to "read log files like dmesg or syslog".

My question is, if I run these in Wayland, will that help figure out what's going on in regular Ubuntu or do I have to log into regular Ubuntu in recovery mode and then read the log files in there?

(For context: my original post).

Bluetooth keyboard connection problems
gb flag

I recently got a deltaco bluetooth keyboard. I've successfully paired it, and managed to use it a few times. I am always able to connect to the keyboard, in the sense that the bluetooth settings tells me that the keyboard is connected. However, this does not mean that I am able to actually type anything with it! Sometimes it works right after I connect. Sometimes I have had to turn bluetooth on and off, ...

Citrix redrawing problems in kubuntu 21.10
ar flag

Since upgrading from kubuntu 20.10 (via 21.04) to 21.10, my citrix session to my work (Windows) has become pretty much unusable, with windows not being redrawn properly: screenshot of citrix session.

I am pretty sure it is not an issue with citrix itself: this system has worked for I think 5 years, and became unusable after the upgrade, 2 weeks ago. I have always used a manually-installed version o ...

Disable HDMI sound

I'm running Ubuntu 20.04, and I have 2 sound cards, one onboard on my msi B450 Tomahawk max, and another on my Radeon RX 5700 XT. I Want to use the onboard one, with headphones.

Whenever I launch a wine app, or lock the screen, it switches to the navi sound card, ie. the one on the GPU. I installed pavucontrol, I forced it to use the onboard audio in its config file, and it does, and any time I o ...

Suggestions to get best Java audio application performance
au flag

I am rebuilding the electronic organ I inherited from my father, and I plan to use Ubuntu on the controller that receives the signals from the console interface and feeds the sound system. This is a heavily loaded Java application. Each voice stop supplies one digital waveform to each key on a keyboard. So if you have four stops down and play an 8-note chord then that's 32 waveforms that have to be m ...

Cannot get sound to work on Acer Swift 3

I've spent most of the day trying to get the sound to work on my laptop after installing Ubuntu 20.04. When I go on Settings > Sound I see 'Dummy Output'. I followed the steps here https://www.linuxuprising.com/2018/06/fix-no-sound-dummy-output-issue-in.html and I briefly had options for 'HDMI / DisplayPort - Built-in Audio' and 'Speakers - Built-in Audio'. I still didn't have sound, though. I co ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
