How to delete recoverable files?
in flag
Nav

I see a lot of posts about how to recover deleted files. But I'm asking about how to make sure that deleted files are un-recoverable. On an HDD and/or SSD. Sometimes we end up doing a delete instead of a shred, and need to ensure that nobody can access the file if the device is stolen or lost.

This would basically follow the steps:

  1. Search for recoverable files.
  2. Overwrite them with zeroes or random bits.

how to recursively remove files from one folder if its file name doesn't appear in another folder
in flag

I have two folders where one contains txt files and the other .jpg files with the exact name. However, txt files are much more than jpg files.

folder_1/00.txt
folder_1/01.txt
folder_1/02.txt
folder_1/03.txt
folder_1/04.txt

folder_2/00.jpg
folder_2/01.jpg
folder_2/02.jpg

Here, I need to remove 03.txt and 04.txt because these names don't appear in folder_2

Font display problem on ubuntu 20.04 when scrolling with the mouse wheel in Google Chrome
cn flag

Font display problem on ubuntu 20.04. When you scroll with the mouse wheel in Google Chrome, the font is layered on top of each other, as if the lines do not have time to go up. But in Windows, for example, everything is fine or in documents opened outside the browser. (Monitor Dell P2419HC, connection by HDMI cable, note ASUS FX505D, video adapter geforce 1050)

Weird right alignment/flipping issue with some applications in Kubuntu 20.04
ru flag

The issue I am facing is that some apps (I suspect GTK apps) are right aligned.

The issue with gimp (snap package):

Gimp menus are right aligned, and the position of toolboxes seem like mirrors of the way vanilla gimp works.

Flatseal: Flatseal's menu has gone to the right side.

Then there's the issue with cursors in dialogboxes that start from the right-side by default:

Latte Dock. As you can see, the placeholder is gone to the right of the text box.

Suddenly, I start from the root directory not my home directory when I login. I want to start from my home directory
jp flag

From some point, suddenly (I guess after an Ubuntu update?), it starts in the root directory when I open a new terminal. I want to start from my home directory as before.

The below is my shell script(I removed all the comments). I am running Ubuntu on WSL2 on Windows 10

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
