File manager - jump to file/folder by line number
gb flag

Is there any file manager that shows a number (similar to line number in vim) for each folder/files in the current directory and you can jump to any folder/file by typing the corresponding number with an action, just like vim?

When dealing with long list of files and folders in a file manager, moving up and down to get to the right file/folder takes time and there must be a better way.

I'm using Ubuntu 20.04. I'm trying to get IO and BlockIO for the postgres process (and all its children).

Clean up package management after upgrading Ubuntu to a newer version
us flag

I am afraid of upgrading my Ubuntu because half of the time when I upgrade, I get a broken system that I must reinstall. So I always do it on weekends and very rarely.

I have a Dell XPS 13 9310 and the last two times I tried to upgrade I got a black screen while doing it, and had to reinstall Ubuntu, because it wouldn't boot anymore.

Are there tips so I can try to prevent this from happening again?

Super key is stuck for all users even after restart
us flag

I recently tried to slightly change my key mapping (only add 2 dead keys for ˇ and ´ symbols) following this tutorial.

After I wrote the modification to the /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/us file, I did something (maybe by executing sudo rm /var/lib/xkb/*.xkm) and now my laptop behaves like the "Super key" is always pressed. E.g. 'H' key hides the opened window e.t.c. This is for all users and even af ...

Ubuntu Server 20.04 on Dell Precision T5500, Displayport recognized but not showing video
in flag

I'm not a complete beginner to Linux but I'm pretty inexperienced. I recently had a Thinkserver TS140 die on me so I replaced it with a cheap used Dell T5500.

So far I'm perfectly happy with the replacement, except for one issue I can't solve. On Debian, Ubuntu, and Ubuntu server the installation process runs fine, but afterwards when booting up to the full installation I get power to my monitor, ...

Solving old monitor woes

I decided to install Ubuntu to replace Windows on an old system of mine. So far, I am having troubles with the display. This display was also an inconvenience on Windows 10, and so the same root cause could be generating issues here.

In general, Ubuntu is not detecting my display. I can make it work when I boot from the installation Flash Drive, where I had customized the startup by replacing "qu ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
