Ubuntu 20.04 - Bridge KVM
cn flag

I am using Ubuntu 20.04.3 and libvirt for virtualization. The default bridge works well with NAT and I am able to establish internet connections.

With a bridge to have a VM on the same network, I cannot go beyond the server.

Does somebody have an idea?

Not sure if multipass run VMs locally or in the cloud, but if it is running locally is must download e.g. qemu2 images first. Can one download these image manually? Is there a simple URL to e.g. Ubuntu 20.04 LTS?

(Just wanna test something in 20.04 and wanna spin up a VM quickly on my current running KVM/QEMU hypervisor and it would really be easy if I could get my hands on a pre-made Ubuntu qemu ...

Built-in GPU not recognized anymore when adding a second screen in Ubuntu 20.04
cn flag

Recently, I built a PC for work and it runs fine with Ubuntu 20.04. It has an AMD Ryzen 7 5700G, an APU as the processor, and the onboard graphics works perfectly.

I wanted to connect a second screen, so I plugged in an old Radeon X1600Pro, 256MB GDDR2, which was laying around. When I switched on the computer, the Radeon card was recognized and a display connected to it worked. However, the built ...

How to fix screen resume or list commands on Ubuntu system?
jp flag

Screen or GNU Screen is a terminal multiplexer.See this for more information. Somehow the screen command has been messed up accessing a remote server. I'm still able to start a new screen (screen <"enter">) but screen -list or screen -r is not working anymore so I am unable to resume existing screens. I don't have the sudo privileges to reinstall/update the utility.

Missing Ethernet Interface in Ubuntu 20.04

I'm having an issue with my Ubuntu 20.04 install where I have no ethernet interface and I can't find a way to get it back. My situation is very similar to this question but I'm unable to get access to an external NIC and I'm doubtful that would even work for me. I have a USB wifi dongle but it isn't recognized by the system and I've been unable to build the drivers (when I try to compile them I ge ...

K3b CD ripping - can't change LAME settings

I'm trying to rip a CD to mp3 with VBR setting V0. In an earlier version of K3b, you could configure the LAME command string. But in version 19.12.3, that has been replaced with a screen in the LAME configuration settings with entries for maximum, average, and minimum bitrates:

How do I reschedule mdadm resyncs? Where is /etc/cron.d/mdadm?
cn flag

I've got a software RAID setup using mdadm on a fully updated Ubuntu 20.04. I experience monthly ~31h array resyncs. I suspect this comes from /etc/default/mdadm, which includes:

# AUTOCHECK:
# should mdadm run periodic redundancy checks over your arrays? See
# /etc/cron.d/mdadm.
AUTOCHECK=true

I'd like to change when this is scheduled, but I don't seem to have /etc/cron.d/mdadm:

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
