How can I tell if Duplicity has frozen?
nr flag

I am backing up an 8TB drive to a 16TB drive using Duplicity, and am wondering if there's any way to tell if it's getting stuck somewhere. This backup takes days, even with rsync, but I feel like it shouldn't take weeks, and at a certain point the "Properties" of the disk size stop increasing, but Duplicity (which I run from the command line) stays there, never returning an error. Is there a way to kn ...

Troubles with js0 and js1 using the xboxdrv
au flag

Well, I've got generic Bluetooth gamepad and I want it to be a X360 gamepad. So, I've installed xboxdrv and it's working fine, but... Xboxdrv created new device as /dev/input/js1. Not many games can work with that, they looking for /dev/input/js0 device, which is understandable, because it's first player's slot. So, what can I do with it? I tried --daemon flag, but it seems this feature works only with  ...

I feel a little silly asking this question... as the answer may be quite simple... but searching here on AU, or on Google, or man mail, hasn't given me the answer.

Opened imagemagick using terminal, not sure how to close it now
cn flag

I opened imagemagick through the terminal with $ display filename.jpg

Once it opened, the terminal was in use (?) as in no more prompt, just blank space where I could type anything like when you write to a file with 'cat'. I used CTRL + Z to get back to the prompt and the image stayed open in imagemagick. Now I can't close it - clicking the red X on the window doesn't do anything. How do I close  ...

Dolphin Mounts Partition As Read-Only
jp flag

I'm running Kubuntu 21.10 on my computer and I have two partitions I use a lot, my root partition (with all of the OS stuff) and my other NTFS data partition, with games and large files. As always, my root folder is in the fstab, but my other partitions isn't (and I don't really need or want it to be.) Usually I mount the other partition and everything is going normal, but today I noticed it somehow got ...

What is New Folder@IHTD
cn flag

I use Ubuntu 21.10 64 bit with Gnome 40.4.0 and Wayland. On the Desktop, if I right click, then on => New folder, I get a small window with New Folder@IHTD and an empty box to name the new folder I am about to create. What does IHTD mean? If I create a new folder via Nautilus, there is no mention of IHTD. In both cases, the result seems to be the same...

Is it possible to run HDD installed windows 7 on Ubuntu 20.04?
br flag

I have a dual-boot PC. Although I mostly use Ubuntu 20.04, sometimes I have to switch to Windows 7 which is installed on the same HDD. But to do that, as you know I have to reboot the PC and select windows 7 to boot. And it is boring to do that every time I need to.

So I would like to ask you if it is possible to run the Windows on Linux desktop. I know a virtual machine is an option but to use t ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
