Is it possible to configure Save-As dialog?
cn flag

Looking for guidance on where editable configurations for Save-As dialog box would be (and which parameters can be set).

Gnome 3.36.8

e.g. Browser >> Print >> Save to PDF >> Save-As

The pre-populated name (I believe generally coming from html title) frequently includes problematic characters (pipes, etc). Would be nice to configure Save-As to automatically remove or replace,  ...

How can I turn off the password on the Ubuntu lock screen
cn flag

I'm running Ubuntu on a VM (host is Windows). I've got Ubuntu to autologin, and never autolock the screen. This is secure because I rely on the Windows host for physical security.

However, when my Windows host locks, the Ubuntu VM locks as well, and forces me to enter my password. I have a long password because I want it only for ssh, and it's disruptive to have to key it in every time I come  ...

Auto-run a service on user log-in Ubuntu 20.04
cn flag

I want to restart the desktop manager service automatically every time the user logs into the PC. I don't need it just on startup, but more importantly on each log in after that, such as after hibernating or after locking the screen.

How I assume I will make it work is by running a script on every login that will automatically restart the desktop manager.

Any help is appreciated!

Vanishing Epson printer utility

I just installed a printer utility which enables me to check ink levels. The deb file came directly from Epson's download page, and Ubuntu handled the installation smoothly. But I can't find the utility! It's not crucial because I can still print. Where does stuff like this vanish to? It's not in the "Show Applications" list. When I ran Windows, the utility would pop up when ink was low, but it could al ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
