Does Linux (Ubuntu) have a tool to handle a full gene test result like a CRAM file?
cn flag

I am downloading a 50Gb CRAM file and it's associated index file. Rather than go online all the time to the tester front end , is there a program for Linux that can handle it. Ditto for ancestry results.

Would like to hide Grub menu
ru flag

First, sorry for my english (I'm french) !!

I've just bought a Dell Inspiron 13 2-in-1 laptop, installed Kubuntu 21.10 (no dual boot) but I've got a little problem with GRUB !

The grub menu still stays visible on boot, with a 30 seconds countdown...

I've first tryed to change the config with Grub customizer, no result.

Then I've modified the /etc/default/grub manually, plus a sudo update-grub, no result.

There are files on my Desktop, but none are listed in Ubuntu
in flag

I am new to Ubuntu.

I just installed it and want to use it to open a file on my Desktop. I navigated to /home/username/Desktop in the terminal, but no files appear. It's the same with all other folders that show up in home/username. Downloads, Documents, Music, Pictures, etc. are all completely empty, despite me being able to see the files on my desktop and elsewhere when no using the terminal. U ...

Login without passphrase after FDE
in flag

I installed Ubuntu (image from dell) 20.04 with full disk encryption(FDE). Encryption went fine but I am forced to enter passphrase which I used for encryption, every time system starts. Is there a way to bypass the passphrase entry by using TPM or some other mechanism without removing FDE.

Thanks in advance.

Font size during Kubuntu installarion
us flag

How can I set the font size during Kubuntu installation? The default size is much too small.

Note 1: I tried using "Try Kubuntu" rather than "Install Kubuntu". Indeed I did have the opportunity to run xrandr by going to Konsole via the Start icon in the lower left corner. But no joy -- xrandr listed just one resolution, which was the maximum (3072x1920). It rejected my attempt to set it to 900 ...

Use jackd with a NVidia HDMI audio interface
in flag

My PulseAudio server, connected to "GF119 HDMI Audio Controller", outputs audio fine for my HDMI monitor. Google seems to indicate this is provided by the NVidia card. However, when I try to start jackd over hw:1,3 or hw:1,7 (which aplay -l tells me is the NVidia card), the command outputs the following:

$ jackd -R -d alsa -d hw:1,3
jackdmp 1.9.12

Xset - the key strokes are not repeating

I'm running Ubuntu 20.4 desktop and I have to run "xset r on" from command line each time I log in otherwise holding arrow or del keys does not work (in repeated mode).

I added "xset r on" at the end of .profile file in my home directory but that does not seem to work.

Is there a better way to run this command at the time of boot up or login?

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
