Xset - the key strokes are not repeating
cn flag

I'm running Ubuntu 20.4 desktop and I have to run "xset r on" from command line each time I log in otherwise holding arrow or del keys does not work (in repeated mode).

I added "xset r on" at the end of .profile file in my home directory but that does not seem to work.

Is there a better way to run this command at the time of boot up or login?

PS: This problem seems new after I moved to 20.04 and curiou ...

I have hade some problems, on and off, with my Dell XPS 7590 and Nvidia. It has an Nvidia 1650 Ti and most of the time it has run fine. From time to time it has failed to use the Nvidia card and started Wayland with the Intel graphics card.

This Friday it did it again and my usual fix of opening Nvidia settings and flip between On-demand and Performance did not work. As it turns out, I am no long ...

Ubuntu 20.04 software update issues: lost resolution, no internet, extra lines on grub page
ng flag

Ubuntu notified me that a software update was available, and that I would need to reboot to complete the update. I went for it. I was told that the updates had downloaded, and was given the option to install. After selecting install (twice), and getting back to the same options, I decided to reboot. Bad choice.

The resolution was terrible. Power cycling didn't help. Also no internet. And there we ...

I've resumed my laptop from suspend mode while ago and its fan has started to work very loud immediately. Never I had seen this laptop making that much noise. Room temperature was around 18 C and computer itself was also cool. CPU temperature was around 35 C when I checked with:

watch -n 2 sensors

I've suspended the pc and resumed again. Now, it's working quite as normal. What could have wrong here? ...

Plus and Minus Keys don't work
sh flag

I dual booted Ubuntu 20.04 alongside Windows 10. In my Ubuntu, the plus and minus signs of my laptop keyboard don't work. They work fine from the numpad, however not from the keys at the top of the keyboard. Nothing is printed when I press those keys. However, '=' and '_', which are on the same keys work fine.

What can I do about this issue?

I tried

sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-input-all

Ubuntu 21.10 freezing randomly on HP 246 G7

So, sometime ago, I upgraded my ubuntu 21.04 to ubuntu 21.10. Right after, I noticed that when I was using the kernel 5.13, it just freezes randomly, so I keept using the version 5.11 waiting for a patch which should solve this problem.

But, this patch never came, and one of the latest upgrades that I made, deleted the 5.11 kernel from my computer, so I couldn't use ubuntu anymore, because it kee ...

SDDM low fps on boot
nz flag

I am currently having a small issue with the FPS on my SDDM login being around 30 fps. The screen goes back to 100 FPS the moment I am logged in or if I select another user and the login screen has some kind of animation involved. I have seen other descriptions of this being involved with g-sync on startup for some reason but am not sure how to resolve this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ifdown interface not configured
in flag

When executing sudo ifdown enp0s8 , I get error saying:

ifdown: interface enp0s8 not configured

The file /etc/network/interfaces was empty when I configured virtual machine, maybe the problem stems from that, enp0s8 is adapter for internal network.

my /etc/network/interfaces

allow hotplug enp0s8

Unable to SSH into Ubuntu 20.04 LTS: Network error - Connection timed out
in flag

Headless Raspberry pi 4 Ubuntu 20.04 LTS.

SSH was working until it suddenly kicked me out and I've since been unable to get back in. I was in the middle of installing and configuring nextcloud. It's serving webpages that I can access in browsers, and ping shows no packet loss or latency.

Do I need to start from scratch, or is there something I can do to get ssh working again?

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
