I am a first-timer with this stuff. I have a new Ubuntu server. I have PostFix and SSH working.

I have installed Wordpress (Lamp stack, apache2, and MariaDB). I also installed NextCloud and uninstalled it again.

Now, Localhost shows my wordpress site just fine. But my static IP and domain name do not.

Ubuntu 18.04.6 nvidia GTX 1060 not work withboth laptop screen and HDMI monitor
us flag

At some point after an Ubuntu 18.04 update, I lost external HDMI monitor support. I found that Nvidia does not support the monitor any more. To get it working again, I have to use Nouveau display driver.

I can do this by adding nomodeset to /etc/default/grub:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="splash quiet nomodeset"

But now, I can’t load the GUI on the notebook screen, it just displays boot console mes ...

remove certain files except others
in flag

I found so many suggestions as to how to remove files with exceptions. However, this case is a little different. Let's say, I have 6 files as follows in my Ubuntu 18.04:

text_1.json
text_2.json
video_1.mp4
video_2.mp4
video_1_notouch.mp4
video_2_notouch.mp4

The command should remove only video_1.mp4 and video_2.mp4 files while leaving other files as is.

I tried rm -v !(*.json|*_notouch.mp4) as sugg ...

Accidentally deleted home folder when trying to delete uneraseable files. (How can I get a permission to re-delete recovered files?)
in flag

I recovered some files using testdisk/photorec. After the recovery, I tried to delete the folders I didn't need. The trash says it's empty but the space on the disk didn't free up. Neither restarting nor system cleaning with 'Stacer' helped, so I googled this code to try to delete it with:

$ sudo -rm ~/.Trash
$ rm -rf *

$ rm -rf * resulted in:

Missing application menus in most installed applications in Xubuntu 20.04 (also with a new desktop user)
cn flag

For some reason, in most applications in my Xubuntu desktop, there is no main application menu (File, View, etc.).

Examples where I see the menu:

  • Notepadqq
  • Terminal

Examples where it is absent:

  • OpenOffice/LibreOffice Writer/Calc
  • Krita

Pressing Alt does not help. What to do? I thought that might be some problem with the user profile, but in the new user profile I face the same problem.

Showing both Windows installations in grub (single Windows EFI partition)

I hope this is the right place to ask this question!

I have a machine in which I have three OSs installed: two Windows 10 and Ubuntu.

The two windows 10 systems have been installed on the same drive, share the same EFI partition, and appear as a single entry in my grub. When I select that entry, I get to the Windows boot menu, in which I have to choose if I want to boot one or the other version.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
