I currently have cron jobs that start and stop the Nginx service during certain times of the week in order for me record live streams that I push to my LAN.

Although these jobs are working fine, I w ...

How to restore the previous version of log file?
cn flag

I run my program on my college server and have to provide a log file to update the results of the program.

Accidently I submitted a program without updating the name of the log file and hence the older version of the log file is no longer accessible to me. But the results are important for me and hence I want to restore the previous version of the log file.

Is there any way to do restoration?

I have no Internet in WINE applications since the Ubuntu 21.04 upgrade earlier this year. I’m now running 21.10 and the problem persists and the network connection is working properly within Ubuntu itself. Another post with the same question relates to VPN but I am not using VPN. Any ideas short of reinstalling WINE?

/var/log/syslog at the time a network-enabled WINE application was run shows:

BusyBox Ubuntu Issue

This is quite wierd. So my friend dmed me about his system not booting and showed me that BusyBox shows up instead of Windows 10. Now he wanted to dualboot Windows 10 and Ubuntu so I went to his house and installed Ubuntu and Windows 10. He ended up not liking it because of his drive space being too small for all his files that he needed. He backed up the files and wiped all his drives and installed Win ...

Thanks :)

How do I change my root password in Ubuntu?
sk flag

I recently posted here regarding a problem I was having with installing VLC media player on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. I just read a reply to that message which said if I did not have the root password, I cannot install anything on Ubuntu. I understand that, but I am wondering if it is possible to recover or reset the root password and, if so, how do I do it?

Thank you.

How is it possible that a new version of the kernel from the mainline is less stable than the one installed?
cn flag

On my Huaweii X Mate pro 2021 edition, I have installed Ubuntu 21.10, with the kernel v. 5.13 (infact the one shipped with Ubuntu).

From time to time, I experience some flickers, then the screen goes off. The only way I have to see things again, is to close the lid and reopen.

I thought to install a new version of the kernel, v.5.14.15, but the system hangs up for a while during the boot, and I don' ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
