Safely turning off RTS for Linux installation
br flag

I just put in a secondary SSD on my Windows machine, and I tried installing Linux on it. However, Linux told me that the machine has RTS (Rapid Storage Technology) enabled, and I need to disable it. I found a setting in BIOS that I can switch from RAID (which I think is the same as RTS) to AHCI. However, I got a warning that this may ruin my Windows installation. Is there any way to install Linux safely ...

A strange external device appeared on the left sidebar
pl flag

First it only showed up for a split second and disappeared, and after that it appeared again and stayed. It looks like this:

It looked like this

I didn't have anything plugged in at the time so I don't know where it came from. It had some files in the folders but I don't remember them because I was nervous and just ejected it. Is it normal? BTW I still use Ubuntu 16.04 but I'm planning to upgrade.

An error occurred during the repair while running boot-repair
ar flag

All of the sudden my Ubuntu would freeze up while I was trying to boot.

I tried booting in recovery mode and the same thing happened. So after some research I decided that it would be best to run a boot-repair.

After attempting so, I ran into the error showed on the title. Whenever I boot up now, it defaults to Ubuntu, but I still have the same issue with it freezing, so now I cannot boot neither in ...

Why is the torrent download for 21.10 only 233K?
in flag

I usually upgrade my Ubuntu desktops by reinstalling from a .iso. I usually download the .iso using a torrent server on my Asus router. That way I can help to spread the good news. But now with 21.10 the torrent .iso is only 233K. It's not the actual .iso The .iso version is 2.9GB. What's going on? Thanks.

How do I get mouse acceleration feeling the same as in Mac OS?
tr flag

I only seem to have the option of choose between "flat" and "adaptive" mouse acceleration profiles. "Adaptive" feels too mild.

The closest I've gotten is switching to the "adaptive" profile, switching from Wayland to Xorg, using xset m 7/2 1, (xset m maxes out at an acceleration argument of 3.5) and setting my mouse to a low DPI setting and the speed to a high setting, but this arrangement feels frag ...

Why does 21.10 upgrade from 21.04 leave me hanging on the last step of upgrade?

(Refer to the 2 images at this site: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/16BoMd9-6ntILMYJFVSjRnfeB4ITV-3nQ?usp=sharing)

I decided to upgrade from 21.04 to 21.10. I used the update-manager -c method of upgrading. After 12 hours, I checked and it was yet running and, from the messages on my terminal screen, appeared to be without issue.

After another 5 or 6 hours, I thought it was done. That's what is ...

Can anybody tell me if UbuntuMATE has already incorporated the BFS Scheduler patch components highly praised by Linus in the article here ?

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
