in flag

I'm new to Linux, just updated from 18.04 to 20.04, after booting my laptop didn't react to all input devices I have, the only thing that worked was keyboard light adjustment. I know this is a common problem, but the way I found on internet (sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-input-all) didn't work to me, it couldn't find the package (I was using ethernet). The solution I found required working GUI.  ...

After first Linux installation I did not bother myself too much with partitions. When I wanted to install a brand new Linux I dived deeper.

How to cut a file in this way?
us flag

I have to cut a long file (approx. 2 millions of lines) at the line that follows the line at which there is the last appearance of a word.

For example the file could be:

line 1
line 2

word
line n
word
line n+2

This file should be cut at the second appearance of word, so the lines following line n+2 (and that line too) should be dropped.

The problem is that I do not know in advance the number o ...

Setting the permissions on all files inside a folder without changing the permissions of the folder itself?
cn flag

I have a folder called my_files. I want to:

  1. set the permissions to allow all users to read, write and execute the folder
  2. and set the permissions on all files inside my_files to allow all users to read and write

As a noob having read the manual (man chmod), I think that the first is accomplished with:

chmod a=rwx my_files

I know that the option -R applies the permissions recursively, but I don't b ...

How to change the USB drive policy from "Quick removal" to "Better performance"?
au flag

I have a Seagate Expansion Drive with 4TB that I use in my dual boot system (OS: Ubuntu Impish Indri 21.10/Windows10Pro, both 64bits).

The speed of the driver was initially slow (speed transfers around 1-2MB/s, in 3.0 USB ports) in both OS.

For Windows, I found that was possible to change the working mode policy, from "Quick removal" to "Better performance". Done this, and the speed was increased to ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
