Unpacking a .tar only persists if left for 30+ seconds

I work for a company that has several Ubuntu 18.04 Server units scattered across the USA running our own software. The units are used by our clients a few days a week and the rest of the time sit idle and (normally) powered off. Since its release, we've run into this rare issue in which a unit will boot up to a blank screen. Fortunately we can manually fix this remotely, but it's been a nuisance. I fina ...

Ubuntu 20.04 first boot freeze on login right after install with nomodeset (i5 9400 and 3080 ti)
cn flag

I installed ubuntu on my PC but it's now freezing right on the login page. I was unable to install it at all due to a black screen but then I set the cvar nomodeset and it managed to install. However, after installing it just boots up to a frozen log in screen. What could be the issue? I'm guessing it has something to do with my GPU (3080 ti) from what I've read online.

Realtek 10ec:8852 pci adapter not working

I am brand new to Linux and am having trouble with my PCI Wi-Fi adapter and the drivers associated with it. I recently downloaded the 21.04 version of Ubuntu and made the switch from Windows. Once it installed, my existing PCI card that came with the laptop stopped working (Realtek RTL8111E Ethernet LOM is the device name when I run lspci -nnk | grep 0280 -A3).

How do I get all the computer's space available?
cn flag

I got an Ubuntu 20.04 in a computer with these specs:

My computer's disc usage is divided like this:

As you can see, almost all of the Computer section's space is used, while 500 GB Volume section has plenty to spare. However, it is read-only. Why is this? Is it possible to make that section usable the same way as Computer section? Is that a good idea, and if so, how do I do that?

Change framebuffer resolution on boot like the Ubuntu Live CD does

I have a fairly recent machine using a Ryzen 5 and a GTX 1060.

When I boot from a Live Ubuntu USB (20.04.3), the initial framebuffer resolution is very crude, most probably 640x480. But after some seconds, long before Xorg starts, it switches to a very high resolution, I guess it is my native screen resolution of 3840x2160. I tried reproducing this effect on my main system (Debian testing) using  ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
