solved Thunderbird wont print, network printer RaspberryPi

The solution was to go to settings, general, scroll all the way down and click config editor. Change print.always_print_silent to false

Usb-to-serial terminal cannot find usb device in /dev

I want to use Hirsute Hippo Ubuntu and the gtkterm serial terminal but there is not any usb device in /dev directory.

I used it a few years ago.

At that time I had to insmod cdc-acm.ko from command line to get device in /dev directory. Now I cannot get it.

Desktop icons not showing, gnome 40

I just update gnome to version 40, currently running ubuntu 21.04. Everything works fine except desktop icons not showing, I tried installing "desktop icons" extensions but for some reason, I cannot enable them. I am also quite new to linux so please bear with me.

External Disk hangs every diagnostic utilities

I am trying to get back my 1To, exFAT-formatted, external hard drive.

I cannot run anything on it or even mount it, everything hangs at a point where I can't even use Ctrl+C to finish it, my only thing left is to unplug my device.

So far I've been trying to run a lot a diagnostic and repair tools to try to save it. In this order, I tried:

  • fdisk
  • gparted
  • badblocks

Looking for a way to get Windows to boot from the GRUB Windows menu. It may have to do with re-running the MOK menu or tool.

How to disable Compose key in Ubuntu 20.04

Newly opened windows do not appear in the active virtual desktop | Ubuntu 20.04, KDE Plasma 5.18.7

Problem: I installed KDE Plasma on Ubuntu 20.04, then added virtual desktops. Certain more frequently used applications will appear in a different virtual desktop than desired (the active desktop).

Firefox appears in desktop 2, Konsole in 1, and Dolphin in 4. I have perused multiple articles previous to this and have not yet found the solution.

The only thing that does work is removing virtual deskt ...

simple screen recorder is not recording sound on ubuntu 21.04

i am using ubuntu 21.04 while recording screen playing a video on youtube. only video gets recorded no audio from youtube or anything playing on screen is recorded (only video no sound). while logging i use ubuntu on xorg. i have tried almost all combinations from setting>sound>input. also kazam software is not recording the sound.
