Ubuntu Server doesn't accept keyboard input at startup
pk flag

I have a Ubuntu Server running since a few years. Today I was shutting it down because I needed it to move locations. Upon restarting, I cannot enter my password for disk encryption anymore. It is very strange. The server is headless and I only ever interact with it via keyboard or ssh.

I can confirm that the USB keyboard works because I can get into the BIOS and use the keyboard there. But when  ...

How can I allow access to SSH only at a specific time?
in flag

Based on Ubuntu 18.04,

I want to allow users to access only from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.(working time) on the SSH server. (used OpenSSH-server package)

I've looked up all the materials I think will help you from user management to PAM settings on Google, but I don't think there's any information to restrict access by SSH time zone.

(But, I have not to use firewall-related services like ufw.)

If you can help ...

Prevent Terminator from switching tab when opening another instance
us flag

I am using Terminator as default terminal emulator. Every time I open another instance (e.g. via ctrl+alt+T) all already existing instances that have multiple tabs switch to the last tab (i.e. the rightmost one).

Why is this happening and what can I do to stop it from happening?

In case it matters: I'm on Ubuntu 18.04.

LVM encryption - start background processes

I used LVM encryption during Ubuntu installation in order to protect my files. I am running on this machine mainly apache tomcat but the process doesn't start only after I enter passphrase. The process is started after I enter the correct passphrase but even before login, so my apache tomcat is accessible before login, and I want it to be available before passphrase is entered, so this machine gives "ap ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
